D-day was a very important turning point in the war. If it would not have been for our brave 101st airborne division and other particiapting nations like Britain and Canada, the war would have been longer or impossible. Soldiers on D-day helped silence the German guns in Normandy, France and move forward to the ultimate goal Germany,Berlin which didn't happen till May 7,1945 which is VE- Day. This battle scene was supposed to be much worse if Hitler would have know about the invasion. But thankfully he was sleeping and his officers were scared to wake him up in fear of being executed. His plan was to have his tanks on the beach as well. If you look on the map of Britain and the English channel you will see how close Normandy Beach actually is.You should really read about this battle scene it is very emotional, but heroic.

It opened the second European front that Russia had been asking for. Until that time, the Soviet Union had been engaging the majority of German divisions. The North African was about won, and the Italian campaign was happening, but it was really the first time that the Allies were liberating Allied territory (not colonial holdings). It was also the start of a drive to Germany itself, where the other theaters were actions against the German (Axis) forces.

The success of D-day was the beginning of the end for the Nazis. It was the first time during WWII, that the German army had to fight a size able army in the west. At that point in time, Hitler had to divide his armies. To the east he had a committed battle going against the Russians, and now, to the west he had to defend against the British, Canadians and American forces.

It was the high-water mark of Nazi Germany. After D-Day the two front war was imposed on Germany. Gemany went downhill after D-Day and it opened Europe up to the Allies.
