I'm 205lbs at 5'11'' and up until now have been relatively active. However, I'm heading into university so my competitive hockey and football days are over, so I'm on my own. I was wondering if I run 20 minutes a night at a good pace (feel my heart working hard) if I'll be able to shed some fat here and there in a couple months time. Thanks.

Hey there, I lost the most weight working out and eating right - no gimmicks-- so you are on the right track but I would try to work up to 30 mins at least when you can.

the running is gonna be ok for now, but i would increase it to 30 minutes, but you will find that after a while it s not helping out that much because your body is going to get used to it, you will have to either increase the time or change it up some way, also there are a few things that will keep the fat off, first is paying attention to and limiting the fat intake. Second is being able to burn the fat if any and limiting sugar and starches that the body will burn instead of the fat. And third not to switch on your internal starvation mode, by not eating enough, which will convert anything you eat to fat for storage. Bottom line, eat healthy and regularly and stay active, burn more than what you consume, and you should be ok. Good Luck!

20 minutes is actually a waste of time if your goal is to lose weight-need to run-jog for approximately 1hour or more its not the intensity but the length of your workout that determines the no of calories that you burn.If you're in perfect shape or the shape you want to be and watch the amount and what you eat then 20=30 minutes daily is ok for upkeep. Working out very intensely all the time isn't all that great to do for you release free radicals and why its actually best to work out moderately but at longer time. Most colleges have a gym etc do bleacher jogging for 30 min. then run for another 30 or if 30 doing the bleachers too much at first do 15 then work up to 30. But that should keep you in shape. If you begin having fat problems consult Nutritionist for at fault is then what and how much you eat like too much fast food. Have a great life.

You are much more likely to hurt yourself than lose weight. At 205, and a history of fb, your knees are a concern.

First, it takes 30 minutes of aerobic exercise to even start burning fat. My suggestion is to walk for a full hour. After you have established this base for about a month, then try running for 5 minutes of that hour. Next week run 10 minutes. By then you will have an idea of your cardio health.

To burn fat and lose weight, you need long slow distance running, running that allows you to chat as you run. Be sure to stretch before and after, and get GOOD SHOES.

GOOD LUCK

Running will help you shed some weight, but I would also check out the rec center on campus. Most rec centers have basketball courts for some pick up games and a really good weight room. The best way to lose weight is to mix cardio with weight lifting. The extra muscle burns more calories.

Yes-definately running every night is a great idea. If you want to shed a couple extra pounds you can cut a small portion of calories from your diet. Just remember to work yourself up to that time frame slowly. Don't go out and push your bady in one day. This could cause some havoc on your body.

Running is a sure way to lose weight, but more importantly than that is what you eat. Make sure you dont eat a lot of junk all the time. When I went to graduate school my schedule was horrible so I ate late and usually on the go. Try eating less more often and exerciseing when you can. Good Luck with school and staying fit.

I checked your BMI and you do need to get back into shape. So, what you need to do is have a piece of friut for breakfast. For lunch maybe a salad with fatfree dressing. For dinner have chicen or fish. And 20 minutes would work for running, but you also need to do like crunches and Taibo or something. Well, I probably didn't help, but good luck!!!!

Yeah, that should help you lose a few pounds. But don't forget that you should watch your diet too.
