I have heard that regular pigeons carry a number of diseases in their feces. I would leave them alone.

Dont listen to the first 2 people their idiots

They are not flying rats, they actually take great pride in cleaning their feathers, and bathing.

They do not carry many diseases, salminella is an issue if raised in an un hygenic environment.

you CAN trap pigeons and breed them to produce homing pigeons.

Your better off just buying a pair of pigeons froma a breeder. But this is just my opinion.

You must get a true pair a male and a female, An Avian Veterinarian can take a blood sample from the birds and send it to a lab.

The aviary for them to breed in SHOULD be at least 5feet long, by 3 feet wide and 5 feet high. They breed more successfully in an aviary and produce healthier chicks.

The homing instinct: The young pigeons that were bred should be put outside in an aviary for 6 weeks to get used the scenery.

Then drive the babies to a place 10 miles away, and release them and they will find their way home.

Gradually increase the space in between do 10 miles for one week and 12 miles another, increase it by 2 miles a week at a time. The furthest from your home you should do it in my opinion is 100 miles, some breeders, go as far as 500 miles. I think this is too far and stress's the birds, your also more likely to lose them to a hawk or a person who shoots pigeons for fun.

I hope this helps

Remember make sure the birds are happy and healthy

Do you mean like the pigeons in the park and on the street? If so, then no. Only homing pigeons are homing pigeons. Street pigeons (a.k.a. "rats with wings") have no "homing" senses.
