No doubt the egg. The chicken evolved from another animal, lets call it the protochicken. The protochicken laid a bunch of eggs, most of them more protochickens. One egg, however, was unique; a mutant. Something different about that DNA, something sort of "Kentucky Fried". It clucked, it cackeled, it strutted, it was spicey and savory.
