Definitely I have to keep in mind some important aspects when buying a car. If the car is new, obviously is important the price I could deal as well as having a good credit history, otherwise I won't be able to negociate a good deal. In the other hand, if the car is used, I would ask for the car price, I'd check its working condition, mileage and appearence; then, I go ahead and check the car's record either to negociate price or not buying it.

Depending which country you are & local law :-
Urban Area - Definitely Fuel Effeciency, not a problem claiming warranties item due to legal practise & commercial image by the cars company. Budget is important especially if you're not going to use tat car for more than 40 years.
Rural & 3rd Country - Tough & Reliable model is a choice. Lasting spare parts due to limitation of workshop & warranty item.My father's van is 45 years old & still kicking.

That I get the best price according to the blue book value. That I get all the features at a good price. That the car be economical fuel wise. Everything else is just icing.

Miles per gallon of gas is my #1 issue with gas prices the way they are now. Then I check reliability (i.e. engine, breakdowns, overheating issues, etc.). Then comfort (i.e. leather seats, well-placed air-conditioning vents, sunroof, various storage spaces inside car, lots of trunk space). Then whether it's cute or not. There are some cars I won't buy (i.e. Saab) no matter how reliable they are. I'm just not attracted to them.

How long the engine is expected to last. I drive Nissans for this reason. I once owned a Nissan pup (pick-up truck) that lasted past 345,000 miles. I currently own a Nissan NX 2000, which is super sharp and starts every time.... it has over 180,000 miles on it. Best wishes

Noise. Cheap cars tend to not insulate you from the noise that the car makes. Make sure you're ok with the way it sounds when you drive the freeway.

Reliability and affordability. I don't really care about having a cool-looking status symbol.
