Unfortunately in this case, appearances are not deceiving. Many people on this site definitely border on illiterate. I think that there are also a decent amount of intelligent people on here, however, to balance this out.

I think some just choose to talk that way because they think it's cool. Others are just stuck in that rut. IT is a shame, but the average American can't spell very many words above the 5th or 6th grade level. On here though there really is no excuse with the spell check. Shame too that we allow our kids to talk like ignants.
Dat = that
Dis = this
ur = your
And so on. Isn't it a marvelous world we live in??
