all right i am a jeweler and the reason your ring si turning yellow is because almost all white gold rings are plated in a form of platinum called rhodium eventually it will happen to all white gold jewelry it will turn yellowish because it is made from gold which is yellow and then has other materials added to it like nickel and when the plating wears away the true slightly yellowish color will show through the only ways to avoid this is to get the ring replated often which will end up being expensive because at aprox $30 each time that will add up or you can return the ring and get the same ring in a different material palladium is good its another form of platinum but less expensive it probably rates around the price range of 18k white gold but because it is a pure white metal it never needs to be replated and will not turn yellow ever.or you could get platinum which is pure white but is more expensive and a heaver metal but again will not turn yellow ever or the last option is to not let the normal wear and tear happen so quickly wear and tear is anything from putting on clothes mittens typing digging ditches any rubbing on the ring will cause it to loose miniscule amounts of metal most not visable to the naked eye but after time its effects are obvious the yellowing you are seeing i dont know what to say about your sister in laws ring but perhaps she is not as rough on her jewelery and that is why its white has lasted longer also it could be a different karat of gold 10-14-18 or it could have a different alloy in it some jewelers now add palladium as an allow to gold and it seems to stay whiter longer but because it is alloyed with gold it will eventually turn slighty yellow but nowhere near the yellow color of most white golds talk to your jeweler see if they know what it is alloyed with or if they will offer your same ring in a different metal you may have to pay the difference between the metal values but i think overall you will be happier i hope this helps you (spell check isnt working sorry about any mistakes)

Not sure why it would change, but we also have white gold rings as I don't like the look of yellow gold for myself. Our wedding bands are both white gold and have not changed colour but do seem to get scratched easily, my jeweler said that would only cost me $23 to resurface it back to the way it was on our wedding day, my engagement ring is also white gold and I don't have any discolouration problems with it either. My rings are 2 and 3 1/2 years old, I rarely take them off weather I am cleaning, gardening, showering or bathing our son. I think you might want to look into a different jewelry store.

My coworker has the same problem. She had her white gold wedding rings sent back three times to have them coat it with some clear coating and still continues to do the same thing. The jewler told her that is because that her own body chemistry changes the color to a yellow tint so they was nothing that could be done about it.

it sucks to say this- but everything is craap these days- same thing happened to me- you will not be happy unless you change jewelers(which will not happen im sure- as they will refuse to give your money back) so the only thing to do is go to another metal- most of your answers have the right idea- cheap, cheap, cheap scrap gold! theres soo many to pick from- look at it this way- you can be unique and tell people your ring is made from a metal that is new to the market-like palladium, titanium, etc! good luck! weddings are streeessfullllll! im thinking about cancelling mine! lol

I would return them and get my money back. Obviously this jewler is not selling top rate merchandiseThe only other reason this could be occuring is that you are having a reaction to an alloy in the gold itself. Wear other pieces of white gold and see if you get the same re-action.

I have a white gold wedding set too. Chemicals from your finger can erode the white gold. The only solution is to take them back to the jewlers that you bought them from and have them re-dip them in the white gold. My set is from Fred Meyer's and they do that for me. It cost i think like $30 for the set and it took about a week.

I have a white gold ring too. It has darkened slightly but you can tell that it is white gold when set next to a regular gold ring.
P.S. my ring was originally regular gold and was dipped in white gold.

Maybe you should invest in a sonic wave jewelry cleaner. I think you'd be astonished at how quickly jewelry gets dirty. It's definitely worth the purchase, believe me!!
