I have a MinPin/Weiner dog, he is 1 and everytime we toss a cookie to him he does this head toss, leaps over the cookie does the head toss and rears up like a bear with his front feet. why does he do this? is he doing this because he is happy and excited?

Dogs do the funniest thing, don't they. Sorry, no cure or solution for you here, I don't think. I think it's just his trait for whenever he's getting a cookie. He's probably excited & expressing his happiness by doing the funny head toss thingy...
Nothing to worry about.

That sounds hauntingly familiar. :o) My dog does something very similar. Nothing's wrong with your pooch - he's just excited about the "catch". It's like he went "hunting" (you got a cookie for him), he "chased it down" (you threw it), and then he caught it (it hit the floor). He's a dog - it doesn't take much to entertain members of the canine community. At least he's not a cat...now that would be a whole 'nother story!

I doubt your dog is wierd. Enjoy his funny behavior. The fact that you say it's funny suggests to me that you are probably responding to his behavior with laughter or something that pleases your dog. By responding positively, you are training him to continue this behavior. You probably didn't realize you were training your dog when you laughed at him, but you were. Probably the first time he did the behavior, it was random, but the key thing is you (and maybe others, too) responded positively (with laughter or whatever). Your dog noticed that response from you and remembered the behavior he just did. Presumably, he has done it quite a few times, and each time he has gotten positive feedback. This encourages him to do the behavior again and again--as long as he continues to get a positive response.

By the way, this system of giving feedback to encourage behavior works in the negative, also. Dogs will remember the behavior they're doing when they get negative feedback, too. So, just as positive feedback makes the dog think, "When I do behavior 'X', my owner does things that make me feel good, so I'll do that again," negative feedback from you will make him think, "When I do behavior 'Y' my owner is displeased, so I won't do that.

Repeated re-enforcement of any behavior will encourage/discourage the dog from repeating it.

Your dog sounds fun, and probably perfectly normal. You can train your dog to do any other funny things that he does that you want him to do more of by giving him/her lots of praise *immediately* after he/she does it.

Enjoy your dog!
