Put your hands in front of you on the floor at shoulder width and crawl up toward your hands keeping your arms somewhat straight but flexed - the fingers and thumb spread out for a good base . The thumb and forefinger should be comfortably apart in a "V" the finger are about 45 degrees outward from your body. Now kick gently toward your hands and try to support your weight 90 degrees to the floor. Just practice without going all out at first to get the idea of timing and feel . Bring your hips up over your shoulders and let your feet follow your hips not trying to kick up immediately. You will use your hand position as a reference -moving forward and back to get balance. If you start to fall forward tuck gradually to a forward roll to avoid injury so you are not falling flat on your back. When getting balance you will use the tips of your fingers and the heel of your hand as an opposing contact point to floor. Flexing of the arms will
fine tune your balance . Your hip position will also maintain your balance, your head should be up as looking in front of you but your focus should be down for now - when you are very advanced you can place your head in the opposite direction toward your chest as an added stunt.
I remember it to me 2 months of practice to be good at it -now it is like riding a bicyle with confidence. Walking will come in time . Use a matt or matress in front of you at first. Put your ankles together for stability remember to move slowly so not to go beyond the balance point. .Good luck from a former high school gymnast

Trish (above) is correct,a wall is helpful in the begining.

Also don't try to look up,this throws off your balance.
Look "back" until your balance is second nature.
Once you can walk around the room you are doing well.
Once you can walk up stairs your doing very well.
Once you can walk up "and" down stairs your doing great.
Once you can walk up & down stairs "forward & backward"
you can pat yourself on the back, you are "very, very,Good!"

the best way to learn is to do it up against the wall after you learn to balance yourself you can do it anywhere you like just stay focused and you can do any thing you set your mind to do.......
