How often should I take my dashund outside for potty breaks because he pee's when he gets excited.

Take him out often - whenever you think he will be excited, perhaps if someone is coming over to visit, take him outside so he can potty there. When a dog urinates upon meeting someone, it is involuntary, a behavior called submissive urination. Sometimes they will outgrow that behavior as they get older and more confident.

It depends how old he is-it is not unusual for certain breeds to urinate when excited. Rule of thumb though is a three month old pup should not have to hold their urine for more than 3hrs and four month old pup 4hrs and so on. A pet should even as an adult ideally be walked to eliminate every 6 hrs.
