My mom won't let me be myself!?

I love alternative bands and punk stuff but my mom doesn't like that. She doesn't like my bands (especially Panic! At The Disco) She calls them the "weird band" and I get upset at her. I just went 2 see them in concert (without her there even though she knew I was going) But before, I asked her about 2 months ago if I can go & once I told her Panic! At The Disco was alternative she said "I'm not taking u! Someone else is going 2 have 2 take u! U know how those alternative bands dress!" So then I was mad at her for saying that, she had never even been 2 an alternative band. Anyway while I was at the Panic! At The Disco concert, my mom was in the house with my little sister (who also doesn't like punk bands & stuff) and they were watching the "I Write Sins..." video. (I guess it was bcuz my mom wanted 2 see what I would be listening 2.) When she saw the circus people in the video, my mom told my sister, "I don't want her (me) 2 dress like that" I'm ashamed 2 be myself bcuz of my mom

I found out what my mom said while I was at the concert becuz my sister told me & I also like Hottopic (I noticed it on the internet) but my mom doesn't know and I want to tell her that I want 2 shop there. She is the mom that is into Dooney and Bourke, Claire's, stuff like that.

Honestly wear anything you like.... ignore your mothers caring, lovng and advice... go whereever you want ad do whatever you want... like what's the worst thing that could happen??

I am not asking you to think about whether you might or might not have good intentions... I am asking you what is the worst thing that could happen???

Now if that worst thing happened...... Who are you gunna need the most?

So if you do things your mum's way.. just a bit any way... cut her a bit of slack... and remember that she probably liked bands her mum didn't like... and wore clothese her mum didnt like...

If you are bit conservative in your clothing... and at least use headphones when you listen to your music... what is the worst thing that can happen to you???

When my son was 13 he wanted to go see Blade at the cinema... He just loved that hackem slashem kind of movie and I could not bare to see it... so I made him a deal he had to fulfill a couple of conditions and I'd let him go see the movie..

condition 1) He had to find a responsible adult who would go to the movie with him.

condition 2) His room had to be clean by Saturday... (Im a mum it's myjob to slip that one in there whenever possible)

condition 3) He had to promise me that is he got scared, freaked out, bothered, or nautious during the movie he would let himself simply walk away.

He got to the movie..... and was home before the credits rolled... it scared him bad... and he did walk out.

I don't think you'll like what I'll say, but I believe you are acting to childish.

Your mother let you be as dumb as you want, she is just not proud of it.

Not letting you be yourself would be forcing you to dress, listen and do what she likes and wants.

You shout be thankful that she let you go to the concert you wanted to go. (why does she have to see??) are you willing to go to some old school concert just because she likes?

As far as I can see your mom is a great mother, even tough she could improve by not criticizing your "choices", but I'm not even sure you deserve it, as you sound too selfish.

I don't think you work, so I guess everything you do is with your parents money. Don't you think you should tell your mom how great she is letting you be something she dislikes, go to concerts she doesn't approve, even if she had never seeing it? Or you'll try to convince people that you never disliked something or someone just because...

Try to be more patient and to understand how hard is for people to see they beloved doing things they don't approve and keep for themselves.

but what i wanted to say was...do u really consider dressing "punk" is being yourself?

And this stuff won't even matter later on. why? because all this is is teen angst. so suck it up. this is coming from a teen. so dont think i dont understand. i can promise you that i have it a million times worse. i dont need to explain myself but really...try not being so pessimistic about it.

your mom is a yuppie, i was like you when i was a kid and my mom hated it to, here is a tip rather than spend stupid money at hottopic (which didn't exist when i was a kid) go shopping at salvation army and make your own clothes, for the bigger jeans just buy fat mens jeans, and buy funky long sleave shirts to put under t-shirts, for hair dye go to walmart. you can be yourself whether your mom likes it or not, i was and my mom got over it.

Tell your mom that she can't change what you're into, you like music that isn't some old lady crap, and you dress according to what you like, and sorry if that doesn't meet her standards.

She's the parent, you're the child...if you live under her roof you have to live by her rules. She is responsible for you until you leave home. Learn to deal with it.
