Well, I wouldn't have done it. There is no telling just what is on the floor in public places. Just think about what people track into places on their shoes. (take a look in the vacuum cleaner bag!)
Aside from dirt, there could be glass that could hurt him.
For pool days, why not keep flip flops or sandals in the car? Then he'll have shoes to put on if you go someplace after leaving the pool.

In the heat of summer, I once allowed my toddler inside the county library barefoot. An older man approached me and I think he said he was a microbiologist, and said in his family he would never allow barefeet on a public carpet because of the nasty germs that one would encounter, esp. if the barefeet had a slight cut or something. Seems reasonable to me, we use toilet seat covers, and are always urged to wash our hands frequently that touch public things...seems a good idea to be cautious of exposing any bare part of our bodies to public surfaces.

No shirt, No SHOES, no service! Plus, he's ten! Was the friend a girl?
PS. Make him wear shoes! It's not proper (Or safe) for him to go barefoot!

That would depend on the kind of area you live in, if there are drug users in the area and there is the possibility that he could step on a used needle, then yes you are wrong. But don't beat yourself up about it.

Not safe or hygenic. your son could get cut or get a fungus. Movie theaters are not known for clean floors. Bare feet at home, fine, in public places, not good.

Why would this be wrong? Did he get hurt in any way? If not then I don't see the problem. I really don't know why people in this country have such a fear of feet.
