I breed birds and yes it is possible for a brother and sister to mate. But there can be complications as the babies can have minor to serious birth defects. However, the babies can turn out just normal as well. I have had both occur. It is best for both the parents if you seperate them and prevent them from breeding.

Unfortunately, you will not get good parakeets from the mating. Since both birds are from the same mother and father, they contain very similar if not identical DNA. Part of the art of breeding animals is eliminating genetic problems to improve the overall bloodlines of the animals. With these two birds mating, they are much more likely to produce birds with genetic defects since the DNA was not mixed with a dissimilar mate.

Yes, just like cats and dogs, birds can breed with their siblings. This doesn't make it right. You need to remove any nesting material from the cage, and/or separate the males from the females. Alternatively, oil the eggs thoroughly with vegetable oil and let them sit on the eggs until they get tired of "parenting". Then separate them and don't let it happen again!

Yes..they will mate..its called inbreeding. If you didnt know the same with humans and other animals genetic mutations may occur. It takes a few inbreeding before this happens, but it doesn't mean something wrong WON'T happen the first time.

Your parakeets can mate, but their progeny (the resultant baby parakeets) will be genetically flawed. It is Darwin's theory of natural selection.

My first instinct is say "absolutely not!" If you can't sell the babies or if you don't have unrelated birds to put with the babies then I would put the male offspring with the mother and the female off spring with the father. At least then their babies will have some separation of genetics.

They are now inbred, they are not going to be as good of quality as ones that weren't inbred.
