Racism in scholarships?

Question

Why is it not considered racist to deny white American's access to most scholarships? To do this is to believe that white's are not equally deserving of the right to an education.

I offer a scholarship ( http://www.daylon.com/scholarship ) and I'm willing to bet somebody would complain if I were to add being white as a requirement for being awarded.

Does anybody else have a problem with race being considered when deciding scholarship eligibility?

It's interesting that only 11 people have answered this in over one week. We have been taught that to think like this is racist, when in actuallity all that you have shown is that the racism is now on the other foot.

We "celebrate diversity" in this country. But the only acceptable diversity is what we have been told is truely diverse, ie. african americans, homosexuals, atheists, and communists to name a few. I do not wish to villify these but meerly use them as an example of "acceptable diversity." Unfortunatly because this has been shoved down our throats many of us are suffering from a severe gag reflex. If you want real equality you are going to have to look somewhere else. What happened to "I dream of a day when a man is judged by the strength of his character, not the color of his skin."

I dream of a day when true equality reigns. A time when the person with the highest score wins, no matter the race, sex, or religion. A time when award shows cover everyone, and that is it. The will be no award for best black this or best latin that. All races are represented by all of the mainstream award programs already, why then is it necessary to segregate ourselves to do our own thing with just our race. Imagine the contoversy of an all white Emmy awards, or best white male vocalist of the year.

If there is to be equality, it must be true equality. Each person judged on their own merits. No bonus point given for diversity.

I find it equally disgusting to see that scholarships are based on rade, as well as some schools and jobs among other things. The discrimination does not stop at race. It stretches to religions (catholic and mormon schools), gender (womens scholarships) and even physical appearance (yes there is a scholarship for people who are shorter than normal). African Americans, Native Americans, Muslims, Asians and most other minority groups here in America get scholarships. Caucasian people with average high school backgrounds have to have something significant wrong with them or have to prove something to these scholarship committees to get anything here anymore. All in all, Caucasians have become more of a minority here than those who are "polically correct" like to identify.

Do not let anyone fool you; everyone is racist and discriminative to a degree. No one is absolutely non-bias because we as humans are not perfect. If people complain, let them. It is no different than any other scholarship.

Seems to me a lot of scholarships are offered by private parties that may want to see a different race get an advantage. If I was going to offer scholarship I would want my money to go where I wanted it to, if that means a minority then I shouldn't be bitched at about it. Scholarships offered by schools would favor minorities anyway since there is a big push for diversity on campuses. It's a catch 22 for schools that are frowned upon for their lack of diversity, and then yelled at for affirmative action policies.

I wouldn't say it blocks whites out of MOST scholarships, but affirmitive action definitely makes it easier for some groups to get scholarships over others.

However, your scholarship doesn't ask for race in the requirements, so simply pick the best essay. Best one wins regardless of race, simple as that.

I totally agree! Maybe if white's had riots and protests that we are "owed something" we might get some help with those things. I had to drop out of college when I was 19 because I couldn't afford to pay, and couldn't get any help with scholarships. Maybe I should''ve painted my face black. I might have an education today if I had done that, huh!

And I thought I was alone...I completely agree. I'm not racist, but if there are so many minority scholarships, why arent there any scholarships for just white people?

Hello, yes I fully agree...if your in this country illegally...you can get one no prob (along with free housing,tax breaks,just to name a few) or...there are scholrships specifially for African Americans(because years and years ago their ancestors were slaves)but, how many are specifically designated for "white people only" NONE..that is because,if there was,it would be protested against.
I think race should have nothing to do with it, it should be based on what obsticals in life YOU have over come (not your ancestors years and years ago)as well as your gpa,not your skin color, or type...

Black people think that only white people can be racist. Political correctness entails giving all the benefits to the minority because they have had such a hard life in this country. In my opinion scholorship should be measured on merit, not race.

Because we as "white people" are the devil. Cause we have it soooo much better than anyone else. And because we dont moan bi@#h and complain about everything to get our way. Well most of us don't.
