Wrapped tightly...6 months is about the longest you want to keep them in there. A freezer is designed to remove moisture from teh air and it also does it to the contents of the freezer, (same for the fridge) making them 'freezer burnt' and tasting terrible.
If they were in too long and are white looking and dry like beef jerky on outside, put them in a slow cooker with a heavy flavored sauce.
The best bet is to go and get fresh steaks from a good butcher (not your grocer) when you are ready to cook them the same day or within two.
Why freeze steaks when you can call friends who will happily bring the beer to your BBQ?

It depends on a lot of things.
How cold is your freezer? (It should be 0 degrees F or less)
Does your freezer have auto defrost? (Auto defrost heats up the coils and this degrades foods faster)
How are your steaks packaged? (The better the packaging, the longer they will last)
In a perfect world where the steaks are wrapped in butchers paper then in plastic wrap and even better yet vacuum sealed. Where the freezer stays below -10 degrees F. and has no auto defrost. Your steaks are good and secure for around a year or even a little longer. I have kept venison packed this way for nearly two years without loss of flavor or texture.
In reality though, steaks put in freezer bags, thrown in a auto defrost freezer that hovers around 5 to 10 degrees F. You can probably get around 3 to 6 months before freezer burn starts to set in.
Just remember, better packaging and better freezer = longer and better preservation.

If they are wrapped properly they can be in the freezer for up to 6 months.....Either use butcher freezer paper, or heavy duty reynolds wrap....Mark the date, say 7-06 for reference.

If you don't wanna spoiled your meat with freezer burns, i think you shouldn't keep it long as two and a half months!
