because they want TWO POINTS.

umm ... smart remark ... I just usually make dumb one's! :-P

Figure that one out! (whether that was smart or dumb)

Anyway, I am quite pretentious and want the world to know my genius!

Mind you I am NOT pretentious enough to answer with:

"I don't know."
"Yeah, I know how that feels." (when the question was, "What do I do to treat a burn?")
"i no cuz 1 tme I ac2ly wrt a centense w/o tipo's n stf. "
"Haha, u're screwed"
"Get a life"
"I do these to get points really because I have no clue of what I am talking about and I like to type and this is quite clearly typing. Is this paragraph long and not answering your question. I hope so because I want you to read a while when you have a pressing problem that you need solved rather quickly. "
"My god, this one time, that totally happened to me. I totally feel you cuz I went through this same thing. This personal story doesn't answer your question however."

Those among many other things that I don't do. Oh wait, I just did them.

Essentially, I think this smart-aleckyness is okay if you want to increase the chances of your receiving a best answer. Hint Hint. The theory behind this being that if you leave a smart remark, the more likely it is that the answer will stick with the questioner and the more likely s/he will reward your answer. Also, its fun cuz most of the time, it is entertaining. At least to the person typing it.

If it is like one of the above that I don't do, then that person is just trying to get points and prove that s/he is superior by answering every question ever posted, regardless of how lame the answer really is.

If you notice, most "smart remark"s are very short replies.
That's a quick two pointer. Also consider the question that has been asked. Some of those don't even deserve a smart remark, which would seem to valid the quick two pointer theory.
Hey- I just got two points!

I hate that:

Whenever I limit the people who answer my questions, For Example:

Christians Only
Democrats Only
Republicans Only
Guys Only

w/e

People come up with smart remarks like "You just want to hear your own lies", "You don't want to hear the truth", "You're racist", omg - it's incredible and some people threaten you... That drives me insane... All we can do is be nice to the people we can't stand, so maybe they won't hate us as much or give us smart remarks. I accidentally posted a news article that was 4 years old and on my details, I wrote, "I messed up", and people criticized me about it rather than answering the question.

Because sometimes it's easier to just make a smart remark, take the two points and run than it is to genuinely try to answer a question. Laziness, but truth.

Ask a dumb question and you get a smart answer.

There wouldn't be so many smart remarks if more people took the time necessary to construct a good question, like you did.

A lot of it is for the points. But if you notice being mean is in vogue! It is way cool to put someone down and belittle them. Look at the TV shows all about trickery and deceit, Like Raymond, King of Queens just for example. Lie and try not to get caught, It is just mean, so the people on here carry on the tradition. Like the people who answer perverts on her. Habit and points. and venting out aggressions.

I think it depends on the question asked. If some goofball asks a really really stupid question like, "What should I do to stop my dog from driving?", they deserve a smart aleck response. They wasted my time by putting that stupid question there.

Now if someone asks a legitimate question, I will try to answer to the best of my abilities.

Because many of the questions asked on here are dating questions asked by 12 year olds, and by kids in school who are too lazy to look up their question on google.

Because many of them are insensitive buffoons! Also, the anonymity this forum provides gives people the "cover" they need to be oh so smart.
