Your body not only burns fat, but it also triggers it to produce energy when their is no source, but fat and this causes a strain leaving your body paralyzed and the ill effects ,thereof, cause you're nervous system and under pressure to perform, your body has kicked the stress response into high gear. The stress hormones are shooting through your bloodstream and moving your blood away from your skin. This can give your heart and muscles more strength — which you would really need if you were trying to run away. Because your blood is going to the places that really need it (like your heart, lungs, and liver), your hands can be left feeling like ice and your body eventually succumbs to Hypothermia and your dead in a matter of few hours.

Well I found your question to be quite vague... But if being cold means staying in cold temperatures then no, it doesn't burn fat at all! Even if it does, its just a teensy weensy bit of fat. But they do say drinking cold water will burn more fats as your body heats up the cold water to an optimum temperature, in the process, fats are also burned. But this isn't scientifically proven. If you want to lose weight, the best way is to work out rather than sitting in below 0 degrees celcius around. You gain stamina and perseverance and no money can buy that :)

At the very least, your body uses energy to maintain body temperature. So, yes, you could burn some fat (once your immediate reserves are used up) by simply staying in an environment cold enough to cause heat loss in your body. That's of course if you don't consume any calories by eating food or drinking fluids with calories. Shivering will certainly use energy too - it's the attempt by the body to raise body temperature.

depending on how cold the air is you could get hypothermic and possibly frostbite. shivvering is not going to burn any fat. Suggest that if you want to burn fat get into a programme of dieting and exersise If you search around in your location you may possibly find a freindly group

Your body fat is stored for use when there is insufficient nutrients taken in. Has nothing to do with hot or cold weather. However, eskimos eat an abundant fatty diet to maintain their fat reserve.
Should your theory be considered, you would then have to go the alternate direction and presume hot weather would melt the stored fat.

Shivering can make you lose weight, yes. But you can also get hypothermia from standing outside in the cold, you know.
EXERCISE. All the shivering is going to do is minimal. Get some sweats on and comfy shoes, and go for a brisk walk, for 30 minutes every day.
