of a a girl you've just begun dating; what to buy as gift, how to act, follow-ups like thank you cards?

Be yourself. Treat her and them with respect. If anything goes wrong, don't get flustered, show you have a sense of humor. If you're going over for dinner, bring dessert (you don't have to make it, just bring your favorite ice-cream or something). I don't think thank-you cards are necessary unless it is a very formal gathering or they gave you a gift. Make sure to thank them for their hospitality when you leave. Relax and let them get to know you. Be honest and make eye-contact.

Are you having dinner with them? At their home? Vacationing/staying with them? Need details. If you are having dinner at their home and they drink, bring a bottle of wine for them to enjoy later. If they don't drink, send flowers for the table before you arrive If you are staying with them, bring a house gift, like a Yankee candle gift set or steaks or something similar. Follow up with a thank you note. And it goes without saying to use your best manners and don' t make moves on their daughter in their home.

Do not buy them anything. Just be respectful of their daughter and their home and you will be fine. No thank you cards. Will make it look like you are trying to hard. Relax.

Sounds to me that you have a handle on it. Sit and talk with them... gifts and presents aren't as important as letting them know you are a thoughtful guy.

If you love the girl, they'll see it soon enough.

all of the above. be respectful and presentable, if invited for dinner bring something whether it be some flowers for Mom (bring girlfriend a flower or two also), or bring a pie or cake for desert. Don't let them catch you kissing, etc. - no pda.

be yourself and honest - don't cuss or discuss any sensitive subjects i.e religion, politics, sex, etc.

be nice to her. that's what they're going to be watching for the most. they don't want someone to date their daughter that treats her like trash. open doors for her, hold her chair, smile, don't swear, don't tell crude jokes, listen, make eye contact with whoever you're talking to, and just be polite.

good luck!

Be respectful, say sir or ma'am, or Mr. or Mrs. Whatever. Dress nicely, compliment mom.
