I don't get annoyed, I actually feel bad for people who need to invoke God's name to give them some purpose in life. I mean, how seriously can I take a grown person who fears some all-knowing being in the sky?
The bible is a poorly written gathering of nonsense, and millions upon millions would kill over it. I'm not annoyed, but it makes me sad that so many sheep wander this planet following a silly book and casting judgment on everyone else...

I guess I'm somewhere in between because I believe in God but I don't believe in the Bible or the Bible's concept of God. It's hard to believe that God would send a gay person to hell but forgive a murderer or tell a father to sacrifice his son. The God I believe in loves you as long as you have a good heart and accepts you unconditionally. So I guess I have a little more sympathy towards atheists than towards Christians because I'm always being judged by the latter of the two.

Constantly. A close friend of mine is totally into the bible and the scriptures and constantly admonishes me for not following her lead and dedication.
I have been shunned by her church group because I am an atheist, they have tried to "convert" me, but to no avail. They seem to be afraid of people that do not believe as they do. I think it's because their faith is very shaky at best.
When I am in the same room with them, it's god this and god that. At one point, my Friend's best friend, a doctor in the area, sat at our kitchen table and said that she didn't think that god wanted her to have an affair. No, I couldn't make this stuff up. If something happens that is good, she looks up at the ceiling and says "thank you god, you are glorious." I wonder if she does that in the supermarket when she finds a good sale on fruit.
She really makes a mockery of religion as far as I can see. Her grandstanding knows no limits and if you don't believe as she does, you are going to hell.
In which case, I guess my space there is reserved.

The fact that you 'can't allow' yourself to believe the Bible annoys me greatly. If you refuse to consider all sides of an argument, the people you speak with will of course get hostile because you are doing the same thing to them that you are saying annoys you. If the bible did not make sense to me, I would not be a Christian, but I never dismiss someone else's beliefs without listening to their side and considering their arguments first.

I don't think you need to be prayed for; I think you need to be reasoned with. Faith is perfectly rational. (Feel free to drop me an email if you want to have that discussion.) And the Bible is not something to be believed or disbelieved as a whole; it's a huge, varied record of human religious experience over a period of several thousand years. Some of it is still valuable to us -- a great deal of it, in fact. But a great deal of it is irrelevant mythology, barbaric social codes, or outright error. Figuring out which is which is the job of every careful, thoughtful reader. You can believe without being a fundamentalist!

if you dont believe in God, you shouldnt capitalize the word God. However, I agree with you. I am Christian thought, and unfortunately I can say the same thing about atheists. I guess as "opposing" views, it seems easy to pick at each other. The truth is that objectively, neither point of view can be proven. You cant prove there is a God, and you cant prove there is not. That is the fact.

Unfortunately, most religions are based on texts that actually teach that it is a sin to not convert others. This is why so many of them are compelled to pressure you into accepting their "faith". It is terribly annoying. All "non-believers" are persecuted at some point. After all, we are a minority. The nice thing is that we are the most non-violent, peace-seeking, tolerant people on the face fo the planet. We actually live the life that most of the "religious" claim to live. I think that their defensiveness is a result of insecurities. Otherwise they would not be so pushy.
You are not alone in how you feel. There are more of out there than you might think. And there are more of us out there than the "faithful" would care to admit.
Take care.

I believe that humans created god too, i'm not any form christian, i'm pagan. So i don't believe in that god, but i do believe in godS and goddesseS, deities. So i'm not pushing anything on you. You have your own beliefs and you're happy with them, keep at it. It does annoy me when some wiccans ask a serious questions and you have these bible pushers telling you that you're going to be sent to "hell". HAHA! Suckers, I highly f*cking doubt it, considering I don't believe in christians creativity. So yeah, that's my thoughts and beliefs. Keep on believing what you believe in.

I know what you mean. Some people, of any religion, have a very condescending way about them. As if you have been sitting here waiting for them to come along and tell you all about their religion. And some, wow, do they get mad when you say you don't believe and are not interested in the belief.
