It is not just the spiritual benefit you receive from volunteering, it also keeps down the costs and avoids having to pay ppl to do the job ie: your kid's school canteen (tuckshop). If the mum's didn't volunteer for free the school would have to pay contractors to do it and the price of lunch would go up. Community spirit is a dying thing..most of us need to stop demanding our local government do things and start getting out there and doing it ourselves. Does your kid's school have any maintenance they need done? Does the local park need a new coat of paint or the swing fixed? How hard is it to volunteer one or two hours a week? Even something as simple as neighbourhood watch or safety house program. JUST DO IT!

I volunteer at the local animal shelters. It's good for me because I love dogs and love to observe their personalities. This is why volunteerism is good for me. :)
