no, not for any reason, and that includes paddling/spanking. it is important, however, for parents to find out what caused the teacher to want to use punishment (of any kind) on their child.
if the child is disregarding class rules or trampling on others' rights, parents need to take action to let the child know such behaviors are unacceptable and to hold the child accountable for his or her actions.
physical punishment by a teacher is never ok, but children must be taught they have to face the consequences of their actions if we want them to grow up to be mature and decent adults (some of whom will be teachers of children themselves).
the best strategy is for parents to work cooperatively with their kids' teachers and have a discipline plan in place that parents will back up at home, so the child knows what to expect. and then all adults need to carry it out!
if a teacher insists on smacking kids anyway, he or she should be reported asap, because it is against the law!

No way!! ANY hitting of children is abuse. And it is NOT up to the teachers to do this. IF a child is spanked (one swat on the butt with the palm of the parents hand), then it is up to the parent to do so (in this state, spanking as I described is not abuse; anything other than that is abuse). This is NOT the 1920-1950s where teachers hit the kids for whatever reason. They outlawed this many, many years ago--and for good reasons!!

When I was younger, we had an option to get a paddle from the coach or to spend time in detention. The guys always took the paddle. After a while, they didn't mess up in class.
The paddle worked.
Today, kids cuss out the teachers and the parents are protecting their brat kids. I say bring back the paddle.

all of you parents that say that they should not be allowed to beat the kids while they are in school are the reason that America is going to hell and all of the kids are *******. believe me i'm a teen and even i think that some of these people should be shot for not beating their child enough because now they are @$$ holes and you all sit around wondering "why did Jonney do it". and the answer is because you didn't beat his @$$ enough instead you gave him a time out. i got my @$$ cut like 3 times and never ever did anything wrong in front of my parents again.

Beat? NO way, I would not allow him do it. Beating is different from spanking. Beating is child abuse, and no one should be allowed to beat a child. I would allow if they had a paddle and knew how to spank. Spanking, hitting the child on the butt, that is ok. God gave padding in that area so that it can handle punishment to that area. Hope this helps!

no teachers go to school to learn the best ways to handle different situation so that a child can learn. Beating a child does not help or encourage living.

A teacher did slap my daughter when she was young and in school. When I found out, I called on this teacher and beat the living crap out of him. And to make matters worst, I filed assault charges on him and he was convicted. I got probation. My daughter said she dropped her pencil on the floor and when she pick it up, the teacher walked up to her yanked the pencil from her hand and slapped her, telling her to stay in her seat !!!!
So, to answer your question NO !!!!!!!!!!!
