The Jews had him crucified, Pilate (the roman guy) didn't want to crucify him, but the Jewish religious leaders insisted that they do so even after several attempts to set him free as Pilate couldn't find any reason to condemn him.

Jesus died when he was crucified then was resurrected in three days and continues to live on in Heaven. It's an example of what's going to happen to us. We shall die, and be resurrected in a similar way.

It was infact Jesus' choice to die this way. God had a plan for him, he could've chosen to turn away from it, but knew that if he turned away, human's were goners. Nobody could lay a finger on him unless it was allowed by God as the Jews tried to kill him on many occasions. It was only when he willfully allowed himself to be captured that he actually was submitted to the punishment. If you recall, the first time he addressed the Roman guard with "I am he" Everyone fell back and some fell down. That's power for you. He was the most powerful man to walk the planet, yet willingly let it down.

It's your choice whether you let it directly affect your life or not. He did it, he paved the way for everyone to get into heaven, not because he had to, but because he chose to. As it is, you are able to make the same choice, whether you want to take up your cross and follow him, or just continue to live like everyone else lives, blind to the truth's that God set forth when making the world.
Nobody can make up your mind for you, but as someone who only recently decided to follow Christ, I can tell you that the grass really is greener, but you have to fight for it, cause it's not an easy road.

In the old testament, the people who believed in God would sacrifice their animals (to specifications).
Understanding our personalities (since he created us) God gave us the last sacrifice, his son on the cross. This is the ultimate sacrifice atoning for all of our sins. All we need to do is believe in Jesus Christ. It was also necessary to show those around Israel at the time that this isn't the only life, Christ was resurrected and proved that there is life after this!
Once this all sinks in and you understand and Believe in the Christ you do feel indebted but not that it is a weight, more like when you get a gift at Christmas or on your birthday. It is a gift, and all you have to do to gain eternal life is to believe in all of this.

Before I answer this, please know that my answer comes from the Bible and not from my head.
In the beginning of time, man was in the garden, intended for a perfect life in fellowship with God. Thtat was broken by
deliberate disobedience of something God said that was important, and because God is perfect, He can't be in the presence of sin, so there was a gap between humans and God. However, it grieved God's heart to leave it that way. He loves us and we were created to be with Him, that is why so many people search and fill that God-shaped void with other things.
Anyway, Jesus died in our place as the perfect sacrifice to bridge that gap and fill that void so that we could once again be in fellowship with a personal God who loves us. Please read John's gospel in the New Testament and may The Lord bless you in your seeking! Also, yes, the Romans crucified Him, but He went willingly. It was a phony trial over phony charges that were trumped up, but He went willingly because the Bible says that without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sin. He was the only person that was crucified to ever be resurrected, and that showed that the sacrifice was accepted.

Very good question my friend, I think I would be more upset if you had've not answered.
Ok, to what the whole deal with salvation, you have to know the history, and I am sorry if this may drag on a bit.
Adam and Eve sinned, thus they were dropped off from grace, and God, in his perfect justice, said that the price of sin is death. Now, given that he is just and does not go back on his words, he was in a moral dilemmah because justice must be served. And the same time, he loved you and I and the rest of the human race from Adam and Eve toll topday and onwards, so he could stand around and watch while we perished so he said
"Fine, I will pay the price, I will fullfill my own justice by paying the price that my created childeren should pay, and I will give-up my Son (Jesus Christ) to this death so that all that believ may have another chance and come back to me."
Yes, the roman crucified him, but it does not mean that he had no choice. He was incarnate free willingly, and free willingly allowed His creation to capture him and kill him.
That is how it works...Now, if He paid such a dear price for you and I...would we dare to turn down such loving invitation?? I guess there is an element of truth in saying that we are indebted to Him, but that is limited in so far as that it is unfair because we cannot repay and eternal debt to an eternal God.
Some Christian church fathers chose to see it differently, and they opt to see it in a more spiritually loving way and say:
"We did nothing to gain salvation, it was all paid by Christ. He was the one that paid the dear price on my behalf, out of His eternal love for me...Thus, I own nothing to lose it. Thus, if I turn my back on Christ, it is turning my back on the person that has loved me so much and paid so much to make me happy, and then I go and dwell in darkness. So not only am I endangering myself and leading myself to distruction, but I am also breaking my heavenly Father's heart by waisting all that had done for me."

Christianity is not about repaying an eternal debt, coz if it was, no one will ever be able to pay back what Christ had done for us. But rather, it is a message of Love and Hope, and an eternal Cry from a Father (God) to his Childeren (u and me) to come back to him and enjoy the love that he has to offer.

It is as simple as that...I hope that clarifies matters for you.
E-mail me if you any further clarifications... and please pray for me.
God bless

Jesus died on the cross because He loves you. And even though He resurrected think of HOW He died. He was tortured. If you really want to understand start by reading the New Testament. It is all about Jesus. Get into a good bible study.

Jesus died on the cross for our sins. He is the "Lamb of God". His dying on the cross directly affected you if you believe that he is who he says he is. i.e. The "Son of God". Jesus had victory over death which is the proof that he is who he says he is, when he resurrected on the third day.

The purpose of Him dying for you is this:

"For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever should believe in Him would have everlasting life.
For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him."

Hi, Jesus died on the cross to pay for our sins! He was able to pay for our sins because he never sinned, and so His willing sacrifice is accepted as a 'substitute' payment by God the Father) for our sins. The reason he rose from the dead was because 'The wages of sin is death' (our direct rebellion against God, in that we live our own lives willfully, pushing our Creator away), and since he never sinned, the grave was not able to hold Him. We,are grateful because God loved us so much that he sent His only begotten Son, to pay the price for our sins. Now, if we believe and trust in the revealed account of God's word (The Bible) which tells us of what God has done for us through Jesus,we as sinners realise we need to be saved, so as to escape God's judgement which is 'The lake of fire', and if we turn from our sin (with our hearts) God promises to save us from that end. The Bible says 'That God is not willing that any should perish, but that ALL should come to repentance (2 peter 3.9). The Bible also says, 'That God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, so that whoever believes would not perish (not physical death, but spiritual death, which is, separation from God)but have eternal life (John 3.16).
Hope that was not too difficult. If you have any more questions, I would be glad to answer them (if I am able to!)

Christ died as a sacrifice, completely pure...that is why you'll sometimes hear Him referred to as the 'lamb of God'...the Romans may have pounded in the nails, and the Jewish leaders may have demanded that he be put to death for upsetting their crooked little applecart...but make no mistake about it..no one TOOK his life, he freely GAVE it as a willing sacrifice...read Luke 22...Christ explains to His disciples that He is giving His body and blood for them...later in the chapter, He is praying in the garden that if it be the Father's will "let this cup pass from me" but concludes with "not MY will, but thine"...but it would be far easier to answer you question "why did Jesus die on the cross for me?" this way...

because He loves you so very much...imagine if you're a parent and are doting on your infant child, or that you are a child looking up at mommy and daddy and know they will ALWAYS love you...or look in your best friend's eyes and bust a gut laughing, knowing the joke that is about to pop out of their mouth...the love God has for you overshadows all that to a degree unimaginable...this is how i read it once, and i'll admit that it sounded corny to me, too..."if God has a refrigerator, your picture is on it...face it, He's crazy about you!" God really does love you...bless you..i wish you joy, love, and peace...

I nthe old testament, God desired animal sacrifies for the forgiveness of sins and lots of other things. Ok...he liked bar b ques. But, the ultimate sacrifice made for all mankind was Jesus, His son, God on earth. He was sacrificed so whoever belives in him shall not parish, but have everlasting life. It's the three strikes rule. First was the forbiden fruit. Then came the flood. Jesus is strike three.....you don't believe in him...you're out.

Jesus is the son of God, a sacrifice to give his followers a way to join him in heaven. Jesus could have fled before being turned in by Judas, but, he knew he was the only way that mankind could find forgiveness for their inevitable sins that occur here on earth. Jesus was killed even though he did nothing wrong. His blood is the sacrifice for your sins. That's what he did for you.
