Diets high in sodium cause the retention of water. The retention of water can affect the function of the renin-angiotension-aldosterone system that helps regulate your blood pressure. Excessive water retention can affect the ability of this system to control your blood pressure on a long-term basis.

Most people get all the salt they need in the food they eat. Any extra salt can lead to problems. However if you are just trying the taste of salt sprinkled in your mouth for a while. I doubt if you are going to do yourself much harm. Over use of salt is more of a long term problem. experimenting with foods is fairly normal from time to time. It is your lifetime food habits that count.

Well, no. Just a sprinkle won't do anything, but eating too much plain salt is bad, especially if you're eating it without food.
In ancient times, did you know that a way of suicide in China was to eat a pound of salt by itself all together?

Eat plenty of potassium and water, too...your body will be off balance if you get too much salt by itself...too much of anything is not a good thing. Anytime I eat something salty I'll eat a banana and drink some water just to make sure my blood pressure doesn't go up too much. Go easy on the salt, geez!

I would think so, too much salt is hard on your body, your arteries, your blood pressure. There is so much salt in all that you eat that is all you need. A little salt is necessary for your body, but pouring salt in your mouth is just plain gross!

Try not to make a habit of that because i do think its bad. However, as with everything in life, taking it in moderation is the key. Don't just get your dinner or lunch plate and add salt even if you haven't tried it. Taste it, savour it, and then see if you really need it.

salt in moderation is not bad, if you do not already have high blood pressure. Salt can make your blood pressure rise. I would watch eating salt, of any kind, in excess.
