The more alcohol present in the liquor, the more it's going to 'burn' when you drink it.
Look for the proof rating on the bottle, it's how you tell the percentage of alcohol in the liquor that you're drinking. Take that number and divide it by 2...that's the percentage.
So for Jack Daniels, it's 86 proof or 43% alcohol. I have bourbon on my shelf that's 127 proof, or about 64% alcohol. Compare that to say, Coors Light with about 4.2% alcohol and you can see why whiskey might burn a little going down.
FYI, whiskey might not make you go blind, but that vocal chord post surely will...geez. Oh, and save_up_your_tears sweetie, there are no hops in whiskey. Wow, you people just kill me.

Because you are drinking the wrong kind of whiskey. Try Gentlemen Jack or better yet, Jack Daniel's 'Single Barrel', now that is some good drinking.

It will make your strep throat worse. Your body will have to shift gears from fighting the strep throat to dealing with the copious amounts of booze that you just consumed. It will delay your healing process. No fun. Just try to go to sleep.

From the alcohol content in it and the aging process of the hops. With lemon, it's actually good for you...in moderation.
