I just had shoulder surgery lol. The rotator cuff is different than the acromium. The acromium is part of the clavical that comes over the shoulder joint at the top of the humorus.. The rotator cuff is part of and on top of the humorus. Look on mywebmd for drawings of the shoulder parts. they can explain it better than me. You can have an impingement in the acromium causing pain and some lack of mobility. You can also get arthritis up under the acromium. You can have a tear in the rotator cuff which is how your arm and shoulder rotate that also casues the same symptoms. A tear in the cuff can be repaired. (sewn back together usually using wire sutures) The only way to tell what is damaged is by an MRI. the acromium can be shaved if there is arthritis there. It is all done arthoscopicly unless something is going to be replaced. Also, if you are seeing an orthopedic surgeon, he should be able to show you and explain to you what is what.
