I'm pretty sure the Vatican explained it; I just don't know the official explanation.

"Moreover, I do not allow a woman to teach or to have authority over a man. Instead, she is to be quiet. For Adam was formed first, then Eve. And it was not Adam who was deceived. It was the woman who was deceived and became a lawbreaker." (I Timothy 2:12-14)

There is no reason to keep women from the priesthood. The catholic church has always been male oriented. Women have been second forever. Because the original church eliminated women as much as possible from the Bible. Jesus loved women. He listened to them and they were among His followers. I also think that in the early church they were written out of the stories of Christ as much as possible. But remember the women where at the Crucifixion and except for his brother john there were only women. And women discovered his body missing and He appeared to the women first. I think that should tell you something. So the answer is that the men wanted all of the power. And that still exists today.

For Summer---No where in the Bible does it say that the leader of the church should be a man. Where did you get that from???

Here's their explanation:

While women could publicly pray and prophesy in church (1 Cor. 11:1–16), they could not teach or have authority over a man (1 Tim. 2:11–14), since these were two essential functions of the clergy. Nor could women publicly question or challenge the teaching of the clergy (1 Cor. 14:34–38).

Basically, at its start it was a turning away from the pagan and goddess worship religions, and the beginning of the oppression of women, who held great power as a result of those religions.

Here's your answer about women priests here, in full detail...

Where the hell in the Bible does it say that women cannot be priests in the Catholic church? By the way, the bible was edited and chooped up and had numerous sections removed and deleted before it was "released".

A Saint (and I say that lightly) suggested that it is "better" for a man to be celebate and preach God's word. - Okay, that's nice, but not mandatory. Where ar ethe women priests?

The Catholic church is a bunch of sexists.

A humerous answer." Who would molest the little boys then?"

Because the Catholic Church uses the scriptures as an example. All of Jesus' apostles were men, not women. They were the first priests. Jesus told Peter that he is the rock that the Church will be built upon.

The Catechism of the Catholic Church states:

The Lord Jesus chose men to form the college of the twelve apostles, and the apostles did the same when they chose collaborators to succeed them in their ministry.

The Church recognizes herself to be bound by this choice made by the Lord himself. For this reason the ordination of women is not possible.

With love in Christ.

Jesus did not pick any women to be apostles. Catholic scripture and tradition do not support women as priests, but there have been women in other roles who have made significant contributions to christianity in the past 2,000 years.

Control.

The Council of Trent (1545-1564) placed the Bible on its list of prohibited books, and forbade any person to read the Bible without a license from a Roman Catholic bishop or inquisitor. The Council added these words: "That if any one shall dare to read or keep in his possession that book, without such a license, he shall not receive absolution till he has given it up to his ordinary."
