We have near-bear and almost-coolers, etc etc, and there's a general concensus that drinking alcohol is bad, so why haven't they eradicated alcoholic drinks and completely replaced them with fake ones?

➔ Non-Alcoholic Drinks
I'm talking about why hasn't alcohol been made illegal because getting drunk is bad. If alcohol was purely meant to 'give you a buzz', they'd only have it in one kind of drink and they wouldn't flavour it. Getting drunk doesn't matter, it's the whole reason I proposed that alcoholic drinks should be replaced with non-alcoholic ones (as in drinks that taste the same and contain 0 alcohol).

Many people do like the taste and buzz of the alcohol, so they won't stop selling it. Even though we have the "near-beer" and "almost-coolers", they don't replace what most people drink for--to get drunk. The "near" and "almost" are usually for people who want that scene to meet people and have a good time without going home blonked out. With so many alcoholics in the world, they'd have fits if real alcoholic drinks were eradicated--literally, I mean, in the form of withdrawal. We should have the decision whether to drink "near" or real beer, so that's one of the 'rights' that haven't been taken away from anyone.

Appearntly you are confused. You think people drink alcohol for the taste. People find drinks that they can tolerate and still will cause inebreation. Also, that general concensus of drinking being bad is a little off. More studies are coming out that shows that drinking certain alcohols are beneficial to the body. What is bad for you is the continous mass consumption of alcohol and/or the consumption and then participating in activities that could cause great bodily harm or death.

alcohol is not illegal because all the people that make big bucks on it are more powerful than the people whose lives are so tragically ruined by alcohol-related illnesses, deaths, etc. There is no justifiable reason for alcoholic beverages. I am a recovering alcoholic/drug addict, all my friends are the same. I probably know about 500 recovering drug addicts and every one of them started with alcohol. What is the purpose, there is none, and I'm with you, it should be illegal.

It's just not close enough to being the same. It would be like listening to music with only one headphone on, sure your getting the "flavor" of the music, but something is missing. You may not need the second headphone, or the alcohol, but it helps the overall experience.
Ban it? Ever hear of prohibition? It didn't work the first time. Probably wouldn't work again. Too many people "need" it.

Even if you say non-alcoholic, they are contain alcohol. I was surpriced, when I looked at the non alcohol beer and red on the lable that it has less the 0.5% alcohol still. So Even if you try to make it non alcohol, you really cannot, unless you use some chemicals, in which case you better drink real alcohol :)

actually, there is NOT a consensus that drinking alcohol is bad for you.
Medical research shows that drinking in moderation ( like 1 glass of wine a day) is not just OK, but is good for your health -- unless you have other diseases that alcohol harms ( like liver disease) or if one drinks too much, or if one is an alcoholic.
Personally, though, i prefer the taste of the non-alcoholic drinks. Especially mint juleps.

Mainly for the effect of the alcohol. But also, not all alcohol is bad. It is recommended that you should drink a glass of red wine a day.

Some people are addicted to the alcohol. Some people wouldn't think they were as cool if they weren't drinking a "real" drink.
