Medical billing is the way that the doctor gets paid, without it, they wouldn't get paid, and we wouldn't have doctors. You have to have medical billing specialists in order to properly bill the insurance company. An ICD-9 code is a code of diagnosis, and without it, the insurance company won't pay it. In most Medicaid cases, the doctor also has to provide many details about the patient besides the ICD-9 code, or Medicaid won't get paid. Medicaid requires that not only the diagnosis code be correct, but the doctor must provide a very detailed report as to why the charges are medically necessary. This is why a lot of doctors don't get paid, and in turn, will not take Medicaid. Medical billing can sometimes be very complicated, and a specialist is usually hired to undertake the job because the doctor and his office doesn't have the time to do it all.
Hope this helps! Have a great day! =)

1) The billing must be specific. The diagnosis is the key that the insurance company examines to see if the billing is correct for the service
2) The billing code gives more specifics, like left eye. Right arm, lower back.
3) then the insurance company examines if the treatment is appropriate for the billing. You wouldn't approve for two gallbladder surgeries or do an x-ray for a bleeding tongue.
4) Then when the codes are coupled together a picture is made to the insurer. They can estimate if a patient needs to stay in the hospital for 1 or 10 days based on the insurance billing being submitted for approval.
5) If it is done wrong it must be medically reviewed. It costs the person submitting the bill and the entire or part questioned in the claim is on hold until it is approved. That can hold up alot of medical care the patient may need NOW.
Hope this helps.

Medical billing is important to ensure that money is brought into the company... to pay bills, have medical supplies on hand, pay salaries and re-invest the money into the facility.
"Write offs" (non payment of claims) have to be absorbed somewhere and can result in higher costs for everyone else. Proper billing makes sure the costs go to the proper place.
A good medical biller can prevent fraud in a company. Careful billing and reviews can prevent fraud investigations resulting in lost revenue in the form of fines and penalties.
How's that for a Corporate Suck up answer? LOL
Good luck.

Doctors will try and bill the maxium that insurance companies allow to earn more money. They also get money from insurance companies by not suggesting surgery in some cases.

because the insurance company wants our money, and the providers want to make sure they get every penny coming to them, whether it is from the insurance or the patient, and they want to make sure they don't write off any more than necessary! So they need people who know how to follow government rules and regulations to make proper and timely filings, or the people who can find the loop holes to get them more money!
It is all about the money!

Sooner or later, if nobody billed you for medical services, they would have to file bankrupcy.
Good luck on stretching that onto two pages.

first when you are in the hosptial you use alot of things like combs, toothpaste, room board, x-rays, sugery, transportaion , other drs, sllippers, gown, and then to keep track of what is used and what meds are given out ivs, it is put into different groups in the bill so to see and what is used.
in case insurance has questions, you have questions, and this summons it all up

Because with no billing there would be no money for the doctors and nurses to live.
