Frontline Plus, a monthly "spot on", kills ticks, adult fleas, flea eggs and flea larvae. It works extremely well, but it's expensive. It should not be used on kittens under 8 weeks of age. You could also use Advantage, which only kills fleas and is based on the cat's weight. Check with your vet before using any kind of flea and/or tick product. And NEVER EVER USE A PRODUCT INTENDED FOR A DOG ON YOUR CAT. YOU CAN KILL IT!

The cat should be at least 6-8 wks of age. If it is very young you can get some rubbing alcohol on a cotton ball and daub it on the fleas to stun them, and then pick them off with tweezers and drown the fleas in a bowl of water. It's the same for puppies, too.

Please, please, please be careful before using any flea and tick products on your cat. Check out harmful products for cats on google. Your best bet is Frontline. It's pricey but its worth it and SAFE for your pet.
