Neither yoga or pilates will strengthen the heart. You will need to do some kind of cardie exercise for this. This will also slim down anything you want slimmed down! Cardie is: swimming, dancing, aerobics, tea BO, kickboxing, treadmill, etc. These need to be done for a minimum of 30 minutes 4-6 days a week.
Yoga and Pilates is quite a workout, and excellent for toning, flexibility and emotional well being. These classes excel in taking your mind off of all problems and helping you to focus on what you're doing, they're great. Pilates is alot of core (abs) and a combo of both would be ideal. The better exercises for your heart are walking and other forms of aerobics. Yoga and Pilates are not aerobic and are not effective in slimming down calves. Toe raises with weights will be more effective for your calves.

Pilates by far. Yoga is more for mind. Pilates is for life ;)

pilates. yoga doesn't really do that much in terms of getting results. pilates is more of a 'work out'.

i heard that you can slim down with pilates
but yoga tones your body and strengthens your heart too...

pilates-- it uses a series of static motiong which elongates and slenderizes the muscles unlike yoga whick holds certain stances and is slower
