It's a label placed on Christians who shoves their beliefs down someone's throat; zealous Christians; Christians who think that everyone is going to hell but them and their specific sect of Christianity.

A Bible thumper is someone who basically hits you over your head with their religion and forces their beliefs down your throat. There's a difference between a true Christian and a Bible thumper. If a true Christian is worried about the state of your soul they'll pray for you. A Bible thumper on the other hand will tell you you're going to hell.

I'm an ex-Christian because of the Bible thumpers..lol

Bible thumper (also Bible basher) is a derisive term used to describe Christian fundamentalists, or anyone perceived as aggressively pushing their religious beliefs upon those who do not share them. As an insult, its target domain is broad and can often extend to anyone engaged in a public show of religiosity, fundamentalist or not.

The term alludes to a preacher thumping his hand hard down on the lectern and the Bible on it to emphasize a point during a sermon.

Sid Meier used the term in his PC game "Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri" to refer to the religious fundamentalist faction, with remarks made by the other factions in the game along the lines of "they're too busy bible-thumping and it's cutting into their bible-reading" to suggest that they had lost sight of the bible's true teachings.

It is also the name of a Bible-study program for Palm OS which contains the full text of the King James Bible. This is a good, albeit possibly somewhat tongue in cheek, example of an insult being reclaimed as a positive description.

The way I interpret it is a bible-thumper is someone who says "the bibles says this and only this; you'd better not think it says anything else."

basically its a term given to Christians who use the bible as a method of instilling God's fear in you, as well as making anyone who is not a Christian believe through fear rather than understanding.
Furthermore, the term can also be used on people who us the bible and christianity to belittle wrong-doers and make them feel inferior and insignificant.
Yes, I agree that this flies totally against our true principals of Christianity, but unfortunatley, 'Bible Thumpers' are out there and I wish they knew how be a lot of what we preach with love rather than anger and pride.
Pray for them, and me.

Someone who uses the bible like a weapon, to bow you to their personal belief. Reasonable people use a reasonable approach, if you read the questions, you will see the difference.

The atheists can get right down in the nasty corner, too. but they are not quite so rabid, most of the time.
