They aren't. Some atheists seem slower in fact. They are always the last to learn something. They need everything to be explained to them. Are you an atheist? Is that why you asked this question? Is it because you need to know how much smarter you think you are then everyone else?

You must first decide what it means to be "smarter". The classical gauge of intelligence determines a quotient (IQ) based on one's ability to reason.
Faith defies reason. Because of this, when people determine their own merit by "intelligence", they will tend to shun ideas that run counter to the reason that they hold in such high regard.
So it is not that Atheists are "smarter", just that "smarter" persons tend more toward atheism.

Your questions presumes too much. It should have been worded thus: Are atheists smarter than anyone?
Atheists presume that their limited human intelligence is capable of pronouncing the vast universe that science is only beginning to chart to be Godless. While their position is certainly arrogant, I don't think it is very bright. Agnosticism is a more defensible position. "I don't know." is a much more honest and intelligent response to the question of God's existence.

We're not necessarily much smarter but we evidently lack the aspect of human nature which can compel otherwise very intelligent people to suspend their normal reasoning faculties and adopt completely unfounded religious beliefs. For that we should be grateful.

first off its "smarter" not more smarter...i hope you were joking when you said that....in most cases i think the reason is we/they realize that a majority of the bible is completely ridiculous...and that it makes absolutely no sense that one man/entity created the entire universe in all its complexity in 7 days...
if you really think about it and are completely open minded i think you will see how ridiculous it is...if jesus were alive today and said all the stuff he did back then...he would be considered a neurotic psychopath and/or schitzophrenic...sry but its true

They're not but if you think they are maybe it's because they believe that sin doesn't exist which gives them options to live immorally such as raping others,committing murders,stealing,lying,cheating,committing adultery or fornication etc... You say that's being more smarter? Sad.

Easy. Atheists do a lot of research into other religions. Most religions are so indoctrined , arrogant and brainwashed that they don't have the brains to research what other people believe.
