U Can do that by a recovery disc or a Windows CD.

No boot disc is necessary unless you are trying to install Windows 95.

The recovery disc will usually come with your computer, if you dont have one, thencontact your computer manufacturing company to order one.

The recovery disc and the windows CD will partition your harddrive and it will wipe out your memory and start from fresh.

Just follow the setup procedure and you can reinstall it.

Good Luck

:-)

To "simply" reformat your harddrive, boot the computer with the windows or quick restore cd that came with your computer in the drive. If it's a windows CD, you will have to delete the partition labled as your "C" drive. Then set up windows on that partition and windows will format it and reinstall itself with a little help from you. btw...if the computer doesn't respond to you inserting the disk, you might have to go into system setup from the first boot screen and set your cdrom drive as first in the boot order.

Of course keep in mind that if you haven't ever done this before, don't be supprised if you fubar your computer...

Hopefully i gave you enough detail to get you going....
...or stop you dead in your tracks...lol

If you mean the XP install CD, just wait for the opportnity to delete the current partioin, and then create a new partition, then format using NTFS. This is all part of the install.

Go to My Computer, right-click on the hard drive you want to format and click the format button. Remember, this will erase everything on your computer, so if there is anything you want to save, copy it to a disk first.
