I take it that Christ began a good work in me when he came into my life. The longer that I follow christ and worship him the more like him I will become like him. I will never even get close but I can see changes in my life. Praise Jesus!

I take it in the comfort of understanding that a Christian life is not a once-or-nothing decision, but rather a salvific process whereby as we imitate Christ (also Philippians - didn't bring my Bible to work today oops), He works in us. Likewise, there is more to Christian life than just being saved, we are certainly called to imitate in word and deed.
I also take it to understand, if the day of Christ Jesus is the Day of Judgement, that the work will continue in us even after our deaths. Some would say this leads to the idea of some finishing place, the shower before the pool.

Good Work” is God’s Gift of Salvation/Sanctification
A wide variety of scholars perceives Phil 1:6 as addressing the work of salvation and sanctification in the life of the believer.4 This might be labeled the “traditional view” because of its wide popularity in laymen’s commentaries.5 But certain theologians claim v 6 as a key text for the doctrine of the perseverance of the saints--the teaching that true Christians will persevere in faith and holiness.6 Thielman summarizes this theology with a succinct interpretation of the verse: “Those who will be saved in the future live holy lives in the present.”7 In his book, Faith Works, MacArthur references Phil 1:6 six different times--as much as or more than any other verse, showing the centrality of its concepts for his theology. It is generally assumed that the theological meaning he assigns to the verse is the only viable interpretation. No exegesis of the passage, discussion of the context, or refutation of any alternative interpretations is offered.8 He explains his theology in this way:

I hope it means what it says. It is He who is responsible for my eventual admission into heaven, not me; not my good works, church membership, baptism, not my will, not my faith, hope or love, but Him and Him alone.
If I trust any of those above listed things I’m in big trouble. While He may use those things in me to the end He has planned, it is He who has to put them there and exercise them to the desired purpose. 'I can of my own self do nothing'…but sin. That I’m pretty good at. "Every good and perfect thing comes from above". Religion is man’s pitiful, but sometimes spectacular, elaborate effort to gain God; Christianity is God’s attempt to gain man.

Well Pastor,
I try to pray as much as I can and help many. I spread His word as I am led and use my spiritual gifts. I have quiet time with my
Father God and I try to be a good witness for Him.. That is what I can to to continue the good works He gave me.

I don't "apply" the Bible to my life. It's not a Band-Aid. I read the Bible, and try to make sense of it as best I can. I study it, to inform my faith. I even discount some of it as irrelevant and archaic.

People are insane....I mean goodness, you just ask a simple question and you get berated for it. I'm sorry!
I love this verse! It gives me hope when I'm down and strength when I feel I can't carry on in this race. God speaks through his word and I thank him for that!

I think it means that when I got saved, it was just the beginning and Jesus is going to continue helping me until He returns.
