Why do Protestants hate Catholics?

After reading some questions on this category, I have come to the impression that some Protestants here completely hate Catholics. Why do you hate us? Catholics don't hate Protestants. In fact, every Easter, in the Roman Catholic Mass, we pray for Protestants.

I don't know any True Christians at all that HATE catholics.

As a Protestant, I don't hate Catholics at all. I see it quite the other way around. When we moved into our neighborhood, neighbors came over and introduced themselves to us (it's a predominantly Catholic area). They asked if we would be members of St. Michael's or St. Albert's. We said we would be looking for a Lutheran church. That was the last time we saw our neighbors. My sense is Catholics still (I mean STILL) consider Lutherans to be anti-Catholic because of Martin Luther. I've also heard that they consider Protestants to be "cheap Christians" - achieving salvation without the need for Confession etc. I was surprised when I did a Google search on "why Catholics hate Protestants" and all that came back was links to the opposite.

Historically speaking, the Protestants split from the Catholic Church because they felt that the Church was making up all sorts of things and calling them "Christian." Protestants try to keep focus on strictly Bibical sources, stripping away the importance of (and belief in) saints and other unBiblical things. They also got rather irked by things like indulgences and other abuses that the Catholic Church has long since gotten rid of. Historically speaking, however, Catholics hated Protestants as much as Protestants hated Catholics, because Protestants in the eyes of the Church are heretics.

Today, there are a whole lot of people on both sides that do not hate each other and, indeed, hold considerable respect for the other side. However, there are others who still hold a grudge or in some way look down on the other side. Some Protestants, for example, continue to see Catholicism as an invention. You yourself say that you pray for Protestants every Easter. I'm guessing (and I could be wrong) that you're praying for their wayward souls to come back to the "real" Truth? That kind of treatment can irk Protestants, I'm sure.

I believe a major difference between Catholics and Protestants is our definition of worship. Protestants believe asking for help from the saints is taking from God. but saints are our fellow brothers and sisters who are now in the presence of God they are already completely happy all they want is us to be happy with them. After we die we do not become mindless being who cease to care for others, but rather we care for them more and therefore they ask God to help those struggling on earth. Just as we pray for each other while we are still alive.

Protestants don't completely hate Catholics. My MRPGF (most recent previous girlfriend) was Catholic, and I like her.

If there's friction, it's probably a remnant of the Inquisition, in which Catholics tried to stamp out "heresy."

i have no idea. i mean, even if we have our differences, they're usually not enough to hate someone for. it sucks that we are so divided, and that some even claim that Catholics aren't Christians but are instead pagan or whatever. if we want to follow Christ, the least we can do is stop the rivalry and try to find some common ground here. don't be jerks guys.

I love being catholic, I love my faith and I know why we believe what we believed. I know that Protestants love Jesus and have so much faith in Him. It is really sad that as Christians we are very divided. I mean there is so much division among us. I just recently found out that there are 40,000+ Christian denominations, all of them who claim are the true church/path to salvation. I'm not even sure if that number includes non-denominational Christian churches. It looks like to me that there are many wolves dressed in sheep's clothing, people starting their own churches, creating more, more and more division. Keep in mind that even the devil quoted scripture to Jesus. Not everyone that speaks about the bible knows how to translate it. Many Christians believe that they can translate it with the help of the holy spirit, but if that is the case, why is the holy spirit sending out so many mixed messages? Again 40,000+! There is something wrong with this approach to reading the bible. It is clear that these churches are founded on differing opinions and emotions. We certainly do need a prepared individual to bring us Gods message as clearly as possible, someone who knows the bible, the prophecies, the stories, the letters, the history behind it, tradition, theology, someone who devotes their whole being to spreading Gods word, someone like a Catholic priest. Yes I said it. Hopefully I didn't offend anyone. But lets be real here, these guys prepare for the priesthood like no other religious leader. I'm not saying they're saints but they really prepare themselves for the difficult role of spreading God's message, in their scripture studies and actions. Actions such as leaving their families, states, and even countries! to go visiting the sick in the hospitals, the imprisoned, counsel people, celebrate mass everyday and ultimately spreading the word of God. What other religious leader leaves everything behind to follow God?

This video reminds me of how other denominations try to create division among the Catholic faith. Instead of focusing on why do Catholics do this? why do Catholics do that? Ask yourself why don't we celebrate mass? Why don't we celebrate the Holy Eucharist? Why do we put off baptism even after we have proclaimed that Jesus is our Lord and Savior? Doesn't your new Christian life begin the moment you accept Christ? What is the significance of baptism?

Religions are just conditioned to hate one another. Many Catholics do hate protestants. It's kind of a sick cycle of the uneducated believers.

Protestants Catholics for the same reason they Orthodox people. They think that people that aren't Catholic or Orthodox aren't true Christians which is total bull considering the Catholic and Orthodox Churches have apostolic sucession while Protestanism does not.
