Engineering: choose the one with front disk brakes and a V8.

Appreciation: choose the 1964 for first-year collectability.

Road manners: 1971 fastback. The early Mustangs were Ford Falcons with stylish sheet metal.

Well I think the 1971 Fastback...I like that style best. 64's good cause it's the very first mustang but I don't think it's the best choice & unless the 66 is just absolutely stunning then that's a no. Hope I helped.

The fastback is my admired form. I have a '70 fastback, and my brother owned a 'sixty six fastback, a lot extra acceptable searching than the coupe variations. Ford and Shelby idea so too, that is why maximum all overall performance variations of Mustang were fastback, and almost each and every Shelby turned right into a fastback.

Lucky sucker!!!! LOL just kidding! Wish I had a choice like that!

But seriously, I'd go for the '66 first, or maybe the '72 fastback. However, if the '64 was in better shape than either of them, as far as running condition, I would get it. If not, I'd get the '66.

The most classic styled Mustang was, without a doubt, the 1966 year. Do it right, save up if needed, and get a convertable. And don't rod the darned thing, it a piece of art, for gosh sakes. Take care of it and it'll be like driving your bank account around. After all, you'll always be able to sell it and get your money back, if needed. You can't do that with a new car. You'll be able to enjoy your money, without losing it. Just don't ruin it by rodding around or trashing it. If you want to rod, get a GTO or something.

I had a '66...that gave them 2 years to work the bugs out. I loved it. It will drink gasoline like water, though. And I had to change the water pump out several times. But go with the '66.
