I have a large psychotic stalker. Completely deranged and delusional (persecuted, paranoid, wrath of god type stuff) for whatever reason he has fixated on me. He assualted me recently but I managed to hold my own in the shoving match. Many witnessess, one of whom was also assaulted, called the cops who came and took him away to jail for a few days. Anyway he may already be out or will be shortly and knows where I live.
I need some good self defence strategies - I'm a wiry 6'2 with a good reach, and reasonable strength but I'm no heavyweight.. this guy is a bodybuilder with delusions about having superhuman powers, I CANNOT get into any kind of grappling with this guy.. If it happens, I need to take him out hard and fast.. the law is on my side on this, but obviously can't protect me 24-7.
guns aren't an option, and I don't want to start anything - just need some good advice on how to stay safe and take this guy out if I have to protect myself or my family.
not a joke. I'm stressed

Gun's not an option because I am not in the U.S.A. - they are pretty much illegal here.

thanks to everyone who's offered good advice and concern so far. A bit of an update - my community has completely rallied behind us as have the local thugs, and my daughter's school is aware of the situtation.
I am aware of my rights of self defence, and while I have every intention to use any means necesary - carrying a gun or concealed weapon like brass knuckles would cause me a great deal of legal angst, possibly even criminal charges - I live in Ontario (Canada) and both are explicitly against the law.
To the guy who thought this was funny (and I appreciate half the stuff you read on the internet is made up or whatever).. buddy, I WISH this were a joke - there is absolutely nothing funny about this - its terrifying, I hope it never happens to you...yesterday picking my girl up from school I had cold sweats and was looking everywhere for danger. STRESS!
However, now that the shock's passed, my fear's been replaced w. simmering fury and righteous indignation.

Sharp blow to larynx, cuts off wind mommentarily.
Edge of palm to upper lip, very painful and distracting
heel of palm or hand edge to temple, not too hard you don't want to kill him. will daze and let him see stars for a min.
glancing kick down shin with the edge of your shoe sole, very painful, will hop around a bit.
These are last resorts, if you can just run away, call a cop, there are to many bogus lawyers who love to defend psyco's to take a chance with front on engagement unless you're cornered with no way out.

My dear friend. You are forgetting the very first rule of combat. Location. If he is coming into your territory you have a very signifigant advantage. Let me explain a tactic that may assist you. It is called Diversionary Response.
The idea is to defeat your combatant before you must actually fight him. The first rule is throw everything you see. Sticks, Rocks, Books, Lamps, Salt shakers, food, coffee, soda... Everything you have. The idea is to ruin his idea of fighting. His plan of attack. The best things to throw are powders. Dirt is widely available and in my opinion your best choice. Throw at the face in attempt to blind him. Even if you do not blind your combatant he will inhale the dirt to some degree, and this will reduce his ability to attack and defend.
Second rule, CHEAT!!! there is no fair fight. Attack the eyes, ears, the groin, the lungs. Be sure to scratch his face in nasty ways. The bleeding will assist in blinding him. If you ever get a clear shot target the ears, they have 4 times as many pressure pain cells then the groin. So if you punch his ear he will be hurting pretty bad.
Third, always use a weapon. Yes guns are out of the question, and you will make people nervous walking around with a sword. So use weapons around you. Sticks make excellent weapons, so do rocks and metal pipes. Kitchen knives, forks, glass shards, beer bottles. Believe it or not there is an entire fighting style involved around using a salt shaker.
fourth, Safety in numbers. If you fear for your family then try to get someone to watch them for you. A brother or father. Perhaps a really mean woman :P.
fifth, aquire an advantage over your apponant. The most obvious will be a taser. Becuase he has really large muscles the electricity will hurt him a whole lot. If you can use a taser get one. Second is mace. Mace is a great weapon. I am a rather good fighter in my opinion, but mace will drop me like a bad date. It will blind your apponant, it will also ruin their ability to breath. And it will create horrible burning everywhere it touches. For something more simple an impact weapon. For a person who does not fight often i would advise Brass knuckles. It will protect your fist and also deliver LETHAL force. Another idea is a baseball bat or baton.
Last but not least make a strategy. If you faught him once, you should have a general idea about a weakness. Does he expose his legs. Does he not kick? when he punches does he target a specific area of your body. If he attacks the chest as most men will, wear armor there. A thin metal plate will ruin his fists pretty quick and save you a painful experience. If he exposes the same spot often, make a point to attack it as hard as you can. I enjoy targeting the elbow. It has a large hitting force and is a very good weapon of my apponants. So i take that away first.
Everything around you is a weapon. From the belt around your belly to scrap metal on the floor. Use it all.
Hails to the strong of heart,
Silence

Call the police and get an order of protection or a restraining order against him. You are right about the 24/7 so go to the sheriff's dept and apply for a gun permit. You should have no problem getting one if you have a clean record. Then on the way home stop by a gun shop and buy a 357. That will stop his bad ***. You say guns are not an option, wake up, you have a family to protect. Not doing everything in your power to stop this jerk from hurting your family is the only thing that's not an option.

It's been a less body-buildey type atmosphere for awhile now. It's mostly due to the fact that the WWE found it's wellness standards under government scrutiny after Benoit's death. Soon after, Sports Illustrated raised a red flag by listing numerous superstars who shared the same physician with Benoit and were known steroid users for one reason or another. Of course, SI, with it's "journalistic integrity", didn't bother to check out the names named or the reasons why they were using. Amongst the ridiculous named were Rey Mysterio, Edge, and John Morrison. While Morrison was repremanded, it was all but accepted that Rey and Edge were using the roids for hormone therapy for their neck and knee injuries respectively. Ever since, guys like the Miz, Evan Bourne, Kofi, Sin Cara, and CM Punk have been popping up on the roster, which is ironic considering at least two of those guys have been busted for wellness. Also, the WWE started biting the bullet with liabilities like Jeff Hardy and offering rehab programs to former talents, which they still do today. As of now, a majority of the cream of the crop independents from the past 10 years are either in WWE television contending for world titles, in development, on NXT, or in TNA. It's not because they're good wrestlers either, it's because they're small guys who don't look all that privvy to using steroids. The new wave of youngsters coming up would rather play video games and skype with their girlfriends back home than go out and drink. The funny thing is, this all happened before too in the early 90's when the first steroid scandal went down. That's why we had Bret Hart, Perfect, Shawn, and Bret's family and in-laws (again, some wellness irony there with the British Bulldogs) rising. It's also why the WWE began losing steam in the Monday Night Wars. As of now, with guys like Punk on top, ratings history is repeating itself a bit...

Pepper spray is a definate helper. That stuff stings and will disorient just about anyone. This gives you the advantage b/c if you need to attack him, he can't see you as well. Remember to attack the senstive areas like the groin and the throat.
I'd look into kung fu b/c there's alot of simple movements that can bring down or at least knock down someone larger than you.
Please seek a restraining order if you can!! This will at least be on record that you tried to keep the freak away from you, and so if by chance you ever have to be in a situation where its his life or yours, you have some legite background into defending yourself from this guy.
Oh and one thing I learned (this was from a friend who spoke with a cop about this so I'm not 100% sure about this accuracy I'd check with a cop just in case), is if you're ever in a fight, if you're the first one to go down to the ground, and the other person still attacks you, you suddenly have the legal right to absolutely defend yourself if you know what I mean...
Its because you showed that you had a disadvantage by being on the floor (in the weakest position). They had an advantage because they were standing and continued to attack you while you were down.
Oh I'd keep a small pocket knife handy too just in case.
Some community centers offer women's self defense classes.
Good luck to you on keep the lunatic away, and I hope you can keep yourself safe.
Best Wishes

The bigger they are, the harder they fall. I am a smaller (4'11) person and have taken down bigger (6'2 body building types). These guys are tough on top but not on the bottom. My faves are the groin and knees. Be careful, only do it if you really have to. Expecially in the knees. People's whole lives have changed due to an injuty like that.
If you are really serious and need practice, try some self defense classes. They are fun, a good workout and most educational!

Don't let the muscle mass intimidate you. Just because he's big doesn't mean he can hit hard or grapple well. If you have to fight him remember to:
1. Put your weight behind your punches by twisting your and moving with them.
2. Kick him in the groin.
3. Gouge his eyes if he tries to grapple you.
4.When you are punching aim for the ribs. If he falls on the ground drop your knee into his ribs.
5. Remember not to hold your breath. Try to breath freely.
He's not invincible just because he lifts iron!

In nature, some animals can defend themselves from bigger predators using bluffing strategy, that's mean scare the predators away without have to engage in a desperate fight.
We can use the same strategy. In my school, to avoid being bullying by older and bigger girls, i learn taekwondo and aikido. While my fast kick actually useless (i know that because i have been beaten twice by slow but big girls), that's served a very good deterence. As result, all older and bigger girls always think twice before bullying me, while actually they can easily beat me.
Back to your problem, you must seek something to deterr your stalker from attacking you. There are some suggestions:
1. Try not to show any fear before your stalker
2. Try not to walk alone. If possible ask someone (brothers /
cousins / friends / neighbors) to accompany.
3. Consider to armed yourself with electric stunning device.
And last, If you have enough spare time, try to learn aikido. In aikido, you can beat a guy much bigger and stronger than you. The problem is aikido took a long time to master.

A sharp blow to the side of the neck, just behind the ear, will drop anyone of any size like a sack of potatoes. It won't always happen instantly (sometimes there's a delayed reaction). Also, a palm heel blow, or even a fist, between the eyes will bring tears to the eyes temporarily blinding them.

Just remember to "SING" solarpexis, instep (of foot) nose and groin. i recomend to stick with the instep nose and groin, the solarpexis can be a tricky one to hit.
stomp the instep and or knee to make it difficult for him to stand properly.
tuck fingers back and flat expossing your palm and strike in an upwards motion towards his nose, if feel threatened put all your power into it to break his nose and cause his eyes to tear, making it difficult to see.
and we all know about the groin, kick or hit it repeatly as hard as you can.
it would be a good idea to keep a strong blunt object (baseball bat) close to your door at all times if you feel he will come a knocking. and no advice is good advice with out application (practice in this case) so do so, practice. good luck and on another note 911 should already be on your speed dial.
