this is what i wrote to them:

It will be very nice to see you all in August, I am looking forward to the Baby Shower.
As far as staying at the house, I feel you all may be more comfortable at a hotel. We do not anticipate being set up to have guests, let alone overnight guests, for some time. We are working hard on trying to change that, and with any luck, we will be able to have guests over.

They are your parents, so my suggestion is to stick it out through one night, that's all it is, no biggie...
They are probably being very nice to you and renting you the house at a low price, and if that's not the case, then get a hotel room for them (or you) and find a new place to live so you dont have to deal with this later on.

If you are paying rent, you are not obligated to let them stay with you. Tell them you're sorry, but them staying at your house would be a major inconvience for you and ask them to get a hotel instead.

Your first mistake was to rent from your parents if you don't want them in you life, and its not rude to stay with a child for one or two days when visiting, It would be rude of you not to invite them to stay. Most parents don't want to live with there children.

It's your parents and you're renting from them. You're screwed. I would say that you should make the best of it. Anyone else, I would politely let them know that you won't be able to have them stay with you. Sorry.

If it's their place and you're renting it from them, if they decide to move in then you should not be obligated to pay rent.
You're guests in their house then.

Tell them you're sorry but you're not prepared to have in-house company at this time, but you'll be happy to refer them to a nearby hotel.

And yes, it is rude to invite yourself to stay with someone.

They are your parents....not just friends...you could try to get along with them for just one night.

Why not view this as an opporunity to change things?

Prepare a simple meal & eat together...

After offering "Thanks" (grace) what could go wrong?

if you can rent from them , perhaps you should move and rent from others...that way you can tell them not to come!!
