Is Rabies something I need to be concerned about? I was not bitten, only scratched.

You don't need to worry about rabies. But cat scratch fever could occur if the cat is a kitten. However, it is unlikely anything will happen.

Is the scratch bleeding or swelled or red at all? If you answered yes to any of these then you should be seen by your family physician. An ounce of safety is a pound of cure as the old saying goes. In other words it is best to be safe than sorry. Get it looked at and hopefully you will be okay.

When another animal bites or scratches you, it is always wise to get yourself looked at by a professional. Rabies, cat scratch fever as well as other diseases can be passed from animals to humans rather quickly.

This is also true for wild animals as well.

Definitely keep an eye on it. I know people who've had serious problems due to cat scratches. One had to go to the hospital and take meds for awhile, and it was his own cat!
