Without members, organizations do not exist. Those who believe in the mission of an organization should join and have a voice in its affairs. Without doing so, organizations will cease to exist.
All must join in order to enjoy the benefits of the organization itself.

Membership signifies commitment. Membership requirements also help an organization control its image, message, and official actions. Membership identifies who may be authorized to speak or act on the behalf of the organization.

The members typically have special priviledges, like voting. You wouldn't want someone who is entirely new to the organization to vote on important issues, like property aquisition, leadership changes, etc.
