The only illness you can catch from a cat, and its not really an illness, its a parasite, is toxoplasmosis. Severe cases can cause problems with the eyes.

Take a look at this website. Very informative.

Audrey is right. There is something called toxoplasmosis but don't worry too much because I've had cats all my life and the risk is low. You're the guy who is going to keep his kitten indoors? Well as I said last time just make sure you change the litter every day (if there's just a small amount of wee and poo then just remove that and replace it). I clean mine out thoroughly and disinfect it twice a week. Always dispose of litter in a plastic ban, with gloves on and put straight in the bin outside. Why can't you let the cat out to go to the toilet and to roam as it would be much happier. I've heard dog faeces can make you go blind though, not cats. Enjoy your kitten - you'll be fine. Millions of people own them around the world and get loads of pleasure with no problems whatsoever. It's the same as if humans didn't have waste disposal - there would be a risk there too. 2 out of my 3 cats come into bed with me and I've never ever had any illnesses.

Cats feaces has got toxoplasmosis this means women may result in a miscarrage or the baby going blind. And it can make the rest of us very ill but only if you eat it pick it up with your bare hands or roll around in it.... as long as the litter tray is cleaned out it is not a problem

Yes, you can catch toxoplasmosis; it can cause a brain abcess. Make certain your cat is wormed regularly by your vet. Provide your cat with a litter tray, wear rubber gloves when you wash out the litter tray.
50% of people in one study had antibodies to it although only 20% of the population own a cat. Rats infected with it become more reckless, less able to assess danger.
Toxocara (roundworm)eggs can hatch out in humans and the larvae migrate to the eye where they can cause blindness, but its very rare. Children are most at risk.
You can also catch tapeworm and ringworm ( a skin fungus) from your pet.

Toxocara canis is LESS harmful to humans than toxocara felis; it takes two weeks for the eggs to ripen after they are passed in faeces, so dog mess that is cleaned up cannot infect you. But cat mess is infectious from Tococara felis immediately, plus cats bury their waste in peoples gardens so its less likely to get cleaned up.

It is possible to contract a disease from animal faeces which can cause blindness but this is only caught from waste which is several days old.

This is one of the reasons behind the rise in doggy bin's located in all parks which sprung up 20 years ago.

Cat poo is only really dangerous to pregnant women, but not as bad as dog poo. You are just as likely to catch something off a human. Cats are very clean animals.

I,m not sure about cats faeces but you can go blind through dogs for sure, its rare but does happen, especially to small children who are more likely to put dirty hands into their eyes.
