Post partum depression is not the "blues" There is the possibility of a psychotic break. Many western countries recognize this fact and will not convict the mother, but rather get her the psychological help she needs. Stress is not the only factor that causes psychosis. In some instances, there are physicians that are ignorant of the severity of this disease. Others around her may feel she is just stressed and then these unnecessary tragedies occur. Education is the key. These women can be helped. People have to care and recognize the signs.I hope we as a people learn to care about each other. It starts at home.

there are women who suffer from post partum depression psychosis. Now this is NOT the baby blues. They have gone past the point of knowing what is right and wrong. They have hormones so out of whack you can't even comprehend what it might feel like.
I suffered from post partum depression. The only thing that separated me from the mothers that you see on the TV was I had this little tiny part of me that said "Stop". So I knew enough to tell my husband what was going through my mind....
Please, don't think that these women do this out of hate for their children. It is an illness. They really do love them.... It is very sad.

Sometimes its the result of post partum depression. We never want to admit that our loved ones are mentally unstable. Andrea Yates drowned all five of her children dut to post partum depression. Schizophrenia is a disease where you hear things and see things this is where they hear God telling them to hurt their children. The mother may be paranoid enough not to tell her family what she is feeling. Its a shame that these things happen. I believe that a visiting nurse should make follow up visits with new mothers to make sure this doesn't happen as often

Many people kill for reasons that can only be ascribed to features of mental illness. You've got to be mentally ill in some fashion to needlessly take the life of another person.

some say its PPD, but I'm tired of hearing that crap! i was diagnosed by 2 docters and had it with my second child and i never once felt like killing my kids. those who kill their kids are just plain out sick people. not only was i diagnosed with PPD i had no car, no family or friends around to help me out, we just moved, hubby was in Iraq, and i had just given birth to a girl by myself, and both of my kids are still alive. their is no excuse for killing your kids. And i was sexually molested when i was little and raped when i was in high school so I'm tired of that excuse being used to.
