For our 5yr old GSD and 9 yr old BC we use Eagle Holistic.
We used Innova before this and it worked great.
However when our GSD joined the family she came along with a typical GSD issue - enzyme problems.
She would eat - but the food would not break down well enough for her to pull all the nutrients out that she needed, nor did it stay in long enough for formed stool.
She could not gain weight.
After trying several different (and high quality dog foods) we hit pay-dirt on Eagle Holistic.
She not only started maintaining weight - but is now a healthy 45 pounds. Her coat is shinny, her shedding is minimull and her overall health and attitude is fantastic.

For our 14 yr old BC we were using Solid Gold Millennium (works great for dogs with allergies).
We had to switch however because, as old dogs do, he started getting a bit confused.
He would not get lost in corners - but did start hugging the walls when he walked.
When out doors he would just start barking and barking and barking (you get the picture) for no reason at all.
We switched to B/D (put out by Science Diet).
You can only get it at your vet's office.
The brain diet food is working great.
He no longer hugs the walls when he walks, and only occasionally will start barking at nothing.
I figure for a 14 year old dog - that is pretty darn good.

What type of dog do you have, and what issues are you having?
These two things do make a difference on what your choice of dog food is.
What ever you end up using, remember to buy premium dog food not just the stuff in the grocery store.
Your dog's health will be better, and in the long run it will be cheaper.

You have to be really careful of what kind of food you feed your pet. There are so many by products and ash in some of the food out there. Some reasearch has been made and a natural diet can extend your dogs life and wellness. Try looking up some recipes for your dogs food and treats or just be aware of whats in your dogs food. Some web sites out there willlet you know whats the best to worse. Found this site and this is one of many. http://home.att.net/~wdcusick/main.html

I give my dog Nutro Naturals, the Lamb and Rice kind. He has food allergies and the vet recommends lamb and rice food to reduce his reactions. It also has glucosamine and chondroitin, which are the ingredients in Osteo BiFlex, which is great for older dogs who have arthritis. I don't know of any grocery stores that sell it, PetsMart has it around here but I don't know what it costs. I buy it at the military commissary and it's about $17 for a 20 lb bag there.

I have a 7 month old huskey, black lab and a 16 year old cocker spaniel. I only buy my dogs one kind of food. It is called solid gold. here is a link to the site.

I have had the pleasure of raising 4 dogs in my life and I have never had a food that has made such a differance my my dog's health. I will agree that it does cost more, but in the long run you will save money from vet bills and your dog will live much longer with full mobility.

Nutro Ultra is great, it's got a lot of natural ingredients. Eagle is another good brand, they also have a holistic version. I just check lables for crummy ingredients and avoid anything with excess corn or dyes like most Purina products ( except maybe Pro Plan) and kibbles and bits.

We feed Solid Gold's WolfKing. Can't beat a dog food where the first ingredient is bison.

I always go for a dry dog food, because it helps keep my dogs' teeth clean. We use Science Diet Canine Maintenance, small bites. Never had a problem and the dogs stay healthy, their coats shine. It's one of the best to me.

Remember, your dog is really just a domesticated wolf.

We feed our dogs mostly raw foods like raw chicken wings, thighs ( bone and all ). Lots of beef organs like heart and liver. One cut up meaty beef leg bone once a week ( lots of marrow )
Raw carrots and broccoli as well.

I feed my dog science diet. I think it is great..although a little expensive but its worth it. My dog seems to like it well.
