MY GRANNY SMOKED FOR 77 YEARS AND THE ONLY REASON SHE QUIT IS BECAUSE MY AUNT THAT IS TAKING CARE OF HER WON'T SHARE CIGARETTES ANYMORE. ALSO BECAUSE SHE IS 95 AND TOO OLD TO REMEMBER SHE SMOKES.

I think that just like everything else, there will be a small number of people that are not effected as adversely as others. For example, the same amount of cancerous cells can be found in two people. One person's health will decline rapidly, while the other person's condition is treatable. I think the same is true for SOME smokers. (I am not a smoker by the way...) Some of them can smoke most of their adult lives and only live to be 50 while others smoke most of their adult lives and live to be 80 years old.

There is some truth in what you say, you do tend to see old people who smoke and are still pretty fit. But I'm afraid you still should stop it. I used to smoke myself for about 10 years but I have given it up and feel so much better, both inside and out. I know what you are saying but at the end of the day, if you are succeptable to things like heart disease, smoking is only going to encourage the disease to begin. Let's face it, if smoking was not that bad for you, the governments would not be advertising for everyone to quit - they want the hideous amount of tax money they make off them! You telling yourself that it will not harm you is just an excuse not to stop! You know yourself that it is not good for you so just try stopping and see how you feel in a few months. It's hard but well worth it!

My dad died of small cell lung cancer which is only caused by smoking. If you smoke, then you probably do not want to look at the statistics. If you do, go to some of the cancer sites. It will scare you.
My Dad's was a common type. You die within 6 months if you have 3 rounds of chemo which is a near death experience. His bones melted but others get it in the throat or other places. My uncled got it in the throat and killed himself before he died.
It is not a joke. If you smoke, at least find out for sure what lies ahead. Do not think the harm you do goes away. My dad had qhit for 35 years but still got it. Just do not do anymore harm to yourself.

I know several. Both grandparents smoked and they pasted away in their early 70s with cancer. I know someone that has cancer in his throat and surrounding glands and he's in his late 50's. The list could go on and on, they all lived in pain and suffering. If you smoke it just makes it 90% worst. If you have strong healthy genes then you'll live longer than others with cancer.
This is the same principle with living a healthy life. If you have bad genes and you live a healthy life you prolong your life. Sometimes just a little and sometimes a lot. But if you don't live a healthy life, you go so much quicker.

My grandmother has smoked like a chimney since she was 20. She is about to turn 90, and healthy as can be. Other people have died in the 40s of lung cancer from smoking. Its a crap shoot and the stats are meaningless. There is no answer to this question.. thats the point I was trying to make.

i have been saying that for years , how can they prove that the people died from smoking . I wonder what the stats of lung cancer are for people who don't smoke compared to smokers . I also know many older people that have been smoking forever and are fine

No its probably not bad but its nasty. I know a lot of people who smoke and I hate being with them because they always smoke and it smells horrible and makes me cough. And even if they dont smoke their clothes and hair stink because of the smoke and I can tell it to their face if I have to. do you really want people to tell you "sorry but I dont wanna be with you because you smoke(and you stink)" ?
