I have Windows XP, and when I try to save pictures from the internet as JPEGs the only option I'm given is BMPs. Can I change this, and how?

u can use another browser or if you have microsoft office, you can open up picture manager and go to file>export and the option to convert is there. If you dont have it then you can use paint.

Another way is to open the picture, click on File, click on Save As, select the JPEG transition selection, click Enter. You will have both the .bmp version and a JPEG version. The .BMP copy will be a little clearer.

You can also use the Irfan viewer and do the same thing. It's free to download and I've found this viewer very helpful to resize large photos down to my screen size. It's an excellent program.

You can find it at www.irfanview.com

I've had some luck saving pictures by just adding the .jpg on the end of the file name (take off anything else, like .bmp). For instance, if a picture is called zebra.bmp, I change it to zebra.jpg and it saves as a .jpg.

Good luck.

Might be that the pictures are only BMPs, although that's doubtful. You can always try to open them in a free picture editor like Paint or IrfanView and convert them to JPG, but that tends to be one of the most common formats anyways.

You will have to save them as BMP's and then you can convert them to JPG or whatever you want.

If you don't have a program to convert them go here for a really neat free one - http://www.irfanview.com/
