When dogs mate, it depends on who many eggs get fertilized. There is no way of knowing how many pups you will get without going to the vet when she gets larger. They can ex-ray to see how many are there.

Not necessity. If you do it too early, sometimes, it will not fertilize the eggs. Although even if you think it is time, the male dog will know when the female dog is ready. We usually have them mate at least twice, like every other day or every other two days. I hope this helps.
