this is quite old-fashioned but it has always helped me...especially for the SAT...get the list of commonly used words from the SAT website and then look them up and make flash cards. then go over them for about 10-15 minutes a day. it seems elementary, but it works wonders.

we used to make little rhymes out of the words to help my son remember, it was just how he got it best.
