No, if you look at a map you understand it better. Afghanistan gives him an enormous geographic strategic bonus against Iran and China both. That's why he doesn't want to find B.Laden anytime soon = we would have no reason to still be there.

Bush, never heard of Afghanistan, Taliban, Al-qada, before, September 11, 2001. If he did it was not a priority threat to him or to the country. But all that changed for ever . . .Osama Bin Laden, has about 50 brothers, many lived in the United States before September 11.
Bin Laden praised the Riyadh and Dhahram attacks on U.S. forces in Saudi Arabia, saying it marked “the beginning of war between Muslims and the United States.” Why does the Muslims want a war with the United States?
Afghanistan was an easy target for bin Laden to take over, we have togo after the person responcible for making war against the United States to protect the United States.
The 911 terrorist did not anounce their intentions to the United States to comment terror in the United States. They lied about what they wanted to do. By their actions they are the liars and not the current President of the United States.
Mohamid Atta, was trained in Afghanistan, on how to be a terrorist. and many other things.
As far as the motivation to be in Afghanistan for other reasons, is just a spin or propaganda that the terrorist will use to hide their real intentions.

To spread freedom and democracy to a impoverished land dictated by obsolete principles.
Afghanistan is the largest producer of heroin, has the highest rates of mortality, highest rates of "child brides", child soldiers, and less than 3% of women can even read let alone attend school. Almost no one has access to clean water, a proper education, etc.
When we occupied Japan after WWII, many people protested. But looking back 50 years, Japan is a close ally, a productive member of the international community, a economic powerhouse, and a democratic nation where its citizens have access to basic needs and are protected by human rights. If 50 years from now Afghanistan will be a first world nation like Japan, Western Europe; then by all means this fight is worth it!

What mines & treasures? It's a poor blasted to hell third world hole that no one has any economic interest in. It is only war-torn because it is strategically located between two worlds - Non-muslim Russia & her former territories to one side & muslim extrmist Iran in the other. Al Quaeda was there specifically because it was the wiold west with no rule of law &no one cared what happened there. There was no purpose in going but to take down al Quaeda & no point in stying except to deny them the location as a safehaven. Our only other concern in Afghanistan is that they not grow drugs for export to the west.

If you don't like Bush than more power to ya, but a question like that makes you look kinda dumb. I know you probably hate the guy but when you start up with this "everything Bush does is wrong" routine it does not make you look intellectual, it makes you look like a stooge of the far left and they're just as bad as the stooges of the far right. You're better than that I hope.

bush is a corrupt greedy president. he is forfilling his father's wish since his father had a bad relationship with iran and the major middle-eastern countries. which is to take there oil.
bush has invested greatly in the oil market so his family would be rich 100's of years to come. plus if we can fortify some type of union we would have a great tactical advantage toward enemies
that my friend is bush's aim toward them

On one hand it's some mines, on the other it's the strategic position that Afghanistan holds in its area.

He wants to establish a firm grip in the Middle East Region. It gives his administration more power to boss other countries (and OPEC) around when his military happens to be in the area.
and just because he butchers the English language doesn't mean he's "stupid"....he's just a bad communicator..which is why the Army's such a great tool for him to have. it's his "diplomatic edge", if you will.
