OK back to the mojito .
put 8 or so mint leaves in a tall glass
squeeze juice of 1/2 lime in glass and muddle mint leaves
To muddle is to crush the leaves till parts of the leaf become darker and the oils are extracted, use a muddler or the back of a bar spoon
add 1 oz rock candy syrup or 1 1/2 tbs fine white sugar
fill glass with crushed ice
add 1 1/2 to 2 oz light or citrus rum
top with soda water
garnish with a powdered sugar covered mint sprig

I'm a bartender, and have been playing around with mojito recipes for a little bit this summer. I found this amazing gin, called "Bafferts" that makes a mint variety. It is the best variation that I've found yet, and my customers are usually pretty hooked. I bet you can order it online or at a liquor store.
Bafferts Mint Mojito:
3-5 mint leaves
lime juice
sugar
(muddle on the bottom)
add ice
add 3 oz mint gin
top with soda water
garnish with lime wheel
warning - really minty and really addicting! You might lose a few branches of your mint bush at the end of the summer .

The best Rum to use is Ten Cane. It's pretty sweet already, because it is made w/ pure sugar cane. So you don't really need to add your own sugar. Make sure ur mint is fresh and use nice big leaves, fresh limes, lots of ice and soda water. The main trick is to have a good wooden muddler and always shake shake away, this mixes all that goodness together. Just remember if you order Mojito's @ a bar ( it takes time to make this drink! you should always tip and tip well if its made right and strong. ) Mojito's are very trendy right now so if you don't mind that then dive in! Good luck finding a new or ur very own way to make the drink but It's going to vary when ordering them out.

I just discovered Mojitos. I love them. Here is the recipe that I like the best...but I am so anxious to see your other answers for a better one.
3 fresh mint sprigs
2 tsp sugar
3 tbsp fresh lime juice
1 1/2 ounces light rum
Club soda
In a tall thin glass, crush part of the mint with a fork or spoon to coat the inside of the glass. Add the sugar and lime juice and stir. Top with crushed ice. Add rum and mix. Top off with chilled club soda or seltzer. Add a leaf of mint, slice of lime or lemon and serve.
When are you making them....I'll be right over.

I don't know about Mojitos but here is something I make that people like.
Get a big punch bowl
Add Gallon of Lemonade
Add Strawberry Juice (to taste) - maybe a quart
Add Bacardi Limon (whatever it takes to get drunk)
Add Dark Rum (whatever it takes to get drunk)
Use a hand blender and finely chop mint and dump it in the punch bowl (it'll) float.
NOTE: All liquids should be COLD or have ice to put in the cups - this is no good at room temp (learned that the hard way)
I call this Swamp Juice.

I don't have a recipe, but google
recipe: mojito
you'll find all kinds...but a true mojito must be made with fresh limes, no bottled lime juice or sour mix
and the best get served with a fresh cut stick of sugar cane that you can chew on

The recipes above are great, but the best mojitos are mango mojitos!! You can buy mango puree or cut up a fresh mango and puree it in a blender. Or, play around with other flavors by changing the flavor of the rum. I like using raspberry or coconut flavored rum. They're all good!
