Yes I do take my son with me. I hate to say it but I spend twice as much if ai take my HUSBAND with me when I go!!! Seriously! He is like a kid in the candy store! Then he acts amazed when the total is $400.00 Atleast my son only asks for 3 or 4 things- hubby keeps throwing all this crap in the cart when Im not looking! smile!

Children learn many skills when they get to go to the supermarket with mom or dad or another caretaker. It's a place where the adult can teach the child boundaries, manners, appropriate behavior in public, to learn to tolerate the word no, to see how food is categorized which helps prepare the child for prereading skills, learn to add how much things cost, and many more lessons. Waiting is a hard thing for a child, so patience is also taught. When my son was a preschooler I always took him to the grocery store with me and I made a lesson out of it for him by giving him so much money he could spend. He learned how far money went in a very short time. There were no temper fits or tantrums. Then by the time he was 7 I was letting him go in a grocery store with a given amount of money and a list of things I needed and he could buy the food and pay for it and not get cheated. I sent him a calculator in with him and taught him also about tax. He grew up able to purchase things and understand a budget. So many kids today don't know the word budget, but if you use each trip to the store as a lesson, you will teach him/her how to spend and know there are limitations on how far money goes. I thought it was fun teaching him. Of course I was also a school teacher and enjoyed teaching him.

I take my 3 year old with me all the time and I don't tend to spend more money because he's learned that when we grocery shop, we are shopping for the whole family, not just for him. He is allowed to pick things out. For example, if we need cereal, he gets to pick from the choices that I give him, not what he wants. This makes him feel like he's picked out something that he wants and didn't leave the store without anything for him.

yes i take my son to the supermarket all the time with me now. he is only six months old so no I dont spend more money. I would guess if he were able to pick out what kind of cereal or snacks he wanted i would probably spend more money.

I prefer to leave my one year old at home not because I spend more money, but because I spend more time. I have to get her into the car seat when we leave the house, out when we get there, strapped into the shopping cart seat, keep her from pulling things off the shelf, picking up her cup of the floor, keeping her from turning around in the seat to get her cup while it's in "time out" while we are going to the bathroom to wash it off, pull her out of the cart, load her back into the car and then make several trips up and down the stairs with her on one hip carrying the groceries into the house. I'd rather spend a few bucks for a sitter for an hour then waste an extra hour, and come home to tired to play games with her.

I don't get sitters, therefore I take all 3 of my young children with me. They do tend to ask for stuff, but I usually just make them a deal that if they are good and don't beg for stuff through the store they can get something in the check out lane. They are usually pretty good about this.

Yes, i often take one or more of our 4 children to the store. They learn how to make choices, how to interact with other shoppers, basic money skills and patience.
We don't tend to spend more money when I have them with me. But like other people have mentioned, it's my husband that raises the grocery bill with all sorts of items he needs.

Yes I do take my kids. Usually I do not spend more money. Unless they are tired, then I buy them something small to get them through the rest of the trip without me having to have a nervous breakdown.

Depends on which child I take if I spend more money or not. If i take my ever hungry teenager I do spend more money! I usually go alone though while they are all at school.

YES, almost daily. I only buy the few things we come to the store for and they are good about behaving and love to go to the store. It's colorful, interesting and has different smells and sounds. Perfect for children who are discovering the world around them.
